Anyone fancy joining a new book swap?

I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me in a new Book Swap. I was part of one on here for a couple of years that worked really well, then we all got a bit busy and decided to give it a rest. Now no-one on MN seems to do them anymore!

The idea is that you get a small group together (up to about a dozen) of people who enjoy reading similar genres or are prepared to try something new. Everyone then chooses a book they have enjoyed, that’s not really famous or a bestseller. On the first day of each month, you post your book to the next person on the list...and then the same again on the following month. We posted chocolate too last time but that’s not compulsory! The idea is that you get to read books you haven’t heard of, and chat about them if you want to.

Some of the books we ended up reading last time: The Water of the Hills, Cutting for Stone, The Snow Child, On The Black Hill, Prince of Tides, The Weather in the Streets, Any Human Heart, Cat’s Eye, A Month in the Country.

Anyone interested? [worries about tumbleweed blowing over thread as no-one remembers book swaps]

Oh dear, the book I was going to send isn't proving quite as good as I'd hoped. Is it okay if I change it, artifarti?' I've emailed you the initials, (same author) just in case someone's already picked it (you never know).

KeithLeMonde, I'm meant to be posting to you. Can I just check whether you're happy for me to send a copy to you via Amazon marketplace as I don't have a copy any more? The chocolate I'll post separately...

I don't want to stop you all getting together on this, but thought all you avid readers may like the website readitswapit.co.uk
Very simple to use - create a free account, list all the books you have available for swapping, await emails from people who want to read your books, choose one from their list or refuse the swap and then simply swap your books via post. Very easy - with a search facility for you to locate the books you want to read. Have a browse around the site - I would highly recommend it.

I shall post mine this afternoon. Had to work very hard to keep me and the toddler from eating the chocolate before packing it up Blush

ghostoftheMNchicken · 03/05/2016 12:18

keith, if you missed my last message, could I check if you're happy with me posting a book directly to you via Amazon marketplace. It feels a bit cheeky doing it without permission (but then maybe that's my anxiety talking...). Kicking myself for not holding onto a copy now.

aristocat · 03/05/2016 13:29

Just checking in to say book and choc posted Grin

mailfuckoff · 03/05/2016 14:04

Did we come up with a group name? I have no smart ideas I'm afraid!

TheImprobableGirl · 03/05/2016 17:09

Same Bertrand- I have sent it first class but whether the Royal Mail take any notice or not is a mystery

RufusTheReindeer · 03/05/2016 17:46

My odds will not be good if the first person on the list has already read it Grin

luckiestgirlintheworld · 03/05/2016 21:38

Mine has gone. Hope you can get through the embarrassing amount of parcel tape thelm Grin

TheImprobableGirl · 03/05/2016 22:02

Oh it's fine- I'll set dd1 on it (5) she's a demon with parcel tape! Annihilated my moving house boxes Grin

RatOnnaStick · 03/05/2016 22:09

Goodness. If I set my 5yr old ds on that, he'd claim the chocolate as his own and run off very fast...

Out of interest, it turns out Cunties only lives about 40 minutes from me. Was the posting order arranged like that or is it coincidence?

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 03/05/2016 22:10

Me if I'm not too late!!!

artifarti · 03/05/2016 22:47

Sorry FeedMyFace - we're underway now but there were a couple of others interested so you could start a new thread?...

Rat - ha, coincidence! That sounds way too organised for me...
