Anyone fancy joining a new book swap?

I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me in a new Book Swap. I was part of one on here for a couple of years that worked really well, then we all got a bit busy and decided to give it a rest. Now no-one on MN seems to do them anymore!

The idea is that you get a small group together (up to about a dozen) of people who enjoy reading similar genres or are prepared to try something new. Everyone then chooses a book they have enjoyed, that’s not really famous or a bestseller. On the first day of each month, you post your book to the next person on the list...and then the same again on the following month. We posted chocolate too last time but that’s not compulsory! The idea is that you get to read books you haven’t heard of, and chat about them if you want to.

Some of the books we ended up reading last time: The Water of the Hills, Cutting for Stone, The Snow Child, On The Black Hill, Prince of Tides, The Weather in the Streets, Any Human Heart, Cat’s Eye, A Month in the Country.

Anyone interested? [worries about tumbleweed blowing over thread as no-one remembers book swaps]

Rat would you like the next one in time to go away, it's a great read ! I can post early z

RatOnnaStick · 21/05/2016 10:34

If you like Moocowmrs. That would be lovely Smile

TheImprobableGirl · 23/05/2016 22:40

All set for June! Or earlier if desired. Am going to the big post office though Angry

luckiestgirl · 24/05/2016 12:41

What's the etiquette? Shall we wait for the beginning of the month to post regardless of when we finish the book?

Amazingly, I've been on a diet this month so I've still got most of my chocolate left!

artifarti · 24/05/2016 14:07

I would sagely advise waiting until the 1st to post. Otherwise some books go early, some go late and a few months down the line when the excitement of it all wears off there are books all over the shop!

Did the missing book turn up in the end?

OP posts:
Hadmeathello · 24/05/2016 17:21

No, it didn't turn up so I'll send a copy to luckiest directly from amazon. I may order it now in case it takes a bit longer to arrive.

TheImprobableGirl · 24/05/2016 20:50

:( maybe I should send mine early so I can send from Amazon should it go awol

mailfuckoff · 25/05/2016 11:45

So we post the parcel in the 1st June? Can't wait to get the next one

Hadmeathello · 25/05/2016 14:13

luckiest, have ordered today from amazon and it should be with you by 3rd June apparently. I'll pop your chocolate in the post separately Grin

luckiestgirl · 25/05/2016 16:10

Ah thanks Hadme. Nice one.

KeithLeMonde · 27/05/2016 16:52

Just realised this was a bad time to get Shantaram (rather long book but has been on my To-Read list for ages) out of the library! Will await my next book swap first then start on the doorstop!

Cunties · 31/05/2016 07:34

TIG pm me your address? I may or may not have lost it Blush I'm ready to post Rats book to you

TheImprobableGirl · 31/05/2016 12:53

Fab- I'm going to head out now to post mine :)

InsufficientlyCaffeinated · 31/05/2016 16:09

Just posted mine early as I had a lot of other things to post today anyway, thought I'd save myself a double trip to the Post Office

RatOnnaStick · 31/05/2016 16:50

Just home from hols about 90 minutes ago. I read the last bit of my book in the car Grin. Its packaged up with some nice looking chocolate from the local farm shop and I'll post it out sometime tomorrow.

luckiestgirl · 31/05/2016 16:59

I'm still in my pj's so I've sent DH out with the DC to buy the chocolate so I'm ready to wrap and post tomorrow. Sorry if it is rubbish arti - blame DH

RufusTheReindeer · 01/06/2016 12:13

BertrandRussell · 01/06/2016 12:17

Will do, Rufus!

I loved the book by the way- but I've completely forgotten to say so on the thread! Will do so this evening.

artifarti · 01/06/2016 12:29

Hurray, hurray, posting day Grin

I've posted, ghost.

Has anyone read the Karl Ove Knausgaard books? Have just ordered the first one after devouring the Ferrante Napoli books...

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 01/06/2016 12:59

I won't be able to post til tomorrow, moocowmrs- sorry.

(I've just realised what your name is!Grin

InsufficientlyCaffeinated · 01/06/2016 13:24

I really struggled with the Napoli books arti, well the first anyway which I tried 3 times then sent to the charity shop so I could stop torturing myself. I fear I'm the only one and that there is something wrong with me! I really wanted to love it too. Are they as good as people say?

aristocat · 01/06/2016 15:52

Have also posted to InsuffCaff Smile this morning. Look out for your postie!

KeithLeMonde · 01/06/2016 19:48
