Two weeks ago I had methotrexate injection and my hcg has been coming down steadily ever since.

It was down to 29 last monday, but today's test shows 31, after I was told that they would certainly be back to normal ie

Does sound odd for it to rise again, even if it is a "only" a small rise.

Have they scanned you?

hairytriangle · 21/06/2010 22:25

I'm in such a frigging mess that I posted that topic twice

I think you need to insist on a scan asap. Sorry to ask but was the pregnancy in the right place? That needs checking first of all!

Secondly I have no experience of methotrexate injections, with my 7 mc's I have either opted for ERPC or natural (which most of the time has lasted for weeks and weeks on end!)

But (sorry if I scare you!) I had a complicated mc in feb 2008, I opted for the D&C and shortly after became ill. I was taken into hospital by my DH, they took bloods and my HCG had rose despite the D&C. It turned out to be partial molar, which can keep growing and producing HCG. It was finally over the following Nov. I will say though my HCG went up in 100's over night and was well into the 100,000's.

Just having a quick google it seems that the rise is common, although if I was you I would push for a scan.

Will they/you not opt for a D&C? Be over with far quicker

Hairy I just wanted to send you some support x You absolutley must be going out of your mind with worry. When the hospital ring you back you must demand for your own sanity, to see the consultant and ask as many questions as you need to. Write them down before you go so you dont forget any. its very easy for the nurse to say dont worry when its not her going through this shit. Easy to say - but don't try and google this too much or you will drive yourself around the bend. Remember you can get a second opinion, and you can ask to be seen at ANY hospital xxxx

I found this...

HCG levels rising

oliviacrumble · 21/06/2010 22:48

Hairy I have followed your threads over the past while, and I must say that your experience also struck a chord with me in terms of partial molar pregnancy.

This happenend to me three years ago, although all that was done was to monitor my hcg levels over several months. They did fall of their own accord.

AFAIK, methotrexate is the treatment given if hcg levels don't fall.

Agree with the others, you need to see your consultant, armed with a list of questions.

BTW, I had erpc with that mc, had continual heavy pain and bleeding for weeks afterwards, but nothing showed up in a scan. It was only when they found a missing lab report on the pathology of the 'products of conception' (Sorry, it's an awful term), that they realised what was wrong.

Hope you get some answers soon.

I'm at the end of my tether. Consultant phoning in morning.

Highest hcg was 180 then day four after metho was down to sixty then a week after metho was 29 but now one wek later it's 30.

Two scans prior to metho showed empty womb and no ectopic. Have bled for thirty plus days. Metho was given around day 15.

Would hcg not be higher if it was molar? I might ask for a d and c

well, I have spoken to the usual practice nurse and although the consultant mentioned another metho he isn't keen for me to have it, and he wonders if this could be a fluke reading.

Testing again on Tuesday when I get back from holiday, and wec will see what's happening.

I did tell her tht if the only option they offer should there be a rise is metho, then I will not be having it but will be seeking private consultation to see if they would do an evacuation privately.

They haven't ever ruled out that there could be small amounts of retained products in the womb and I really do wish I'd pushed more for an evacuation before the metho, the first time, as I might not be on a three month wait

I did stress again that I will not be taking Metho again, as that would be a six month wait, by which time I will be forty three, and I can't do that to myself mentally.

Just wanted to say thanks to those who replied yesterday. I cried and cried last night I really felt like I'd lost the will to carry on - but woke up feeling more positive today.

hairy I am glad you are feeling more positive, and that you got some answers today. I wish I had gone with ERPC instead of the medical route, but we made those decisions based on what was good for us at the time, hindsight is a wonderful thing

Go on your holiday, enjoy yourself, drink and eat what you want and by Tuesday you may get some really good news. HCG 30 = not far for you to drop now xx

Magic8footballhastheanswers · 22/06/2010 18:51

hairy have just seen your post hun. Big hugs I hope you are feeling a little better today xxxx

gruffalomum · 22/06/2010 21:44

Hairy, have just seen this, haven't been on for a while, you poor thing. I am sending you huge hugs and lots of love.
I haven't got any wise words, others know far more than me, but it does seem that you are doing the all right things - keep on at them until they give you the answers/treatment that you need and if that doesn't happen soon I would say definitely go private if you can, even if just for a consultation, the peace of mind will be worth every penny.
Hope your holiday as much as possible under the circumstances.
Love to you, xxxxxx

Thanks all. Just quickly updating that my hcg today was 0.4 so I am over the moon and 'normal' again! just hope ~AF comes in next couple of weeks.

Bleeding stopped last Weds after a dose of antibiotics from GP so looks like hospital missed a mild infection.

Yay Hairy - v.glad you're feeling better and all the faffing is over for you

hairytriangle · 02/07/2010 15:37

I have another update

Today I got my period and managed to get a private HSG test (tube test) done. I have a blocked right tube, which means my pregnancy probably got stuck in the tube (the corpus luteum was right side).

But everything else is looking fine and dandy, and I am going to get a laporoscopy done.

The important info bit is that the consultant has said I can take supplements from now, and try again as soon as I like! contrary to what the NHS said, apparently the low does injection they give for ectopic is actually not quite safe for future pregnancy,

I'm only going to try if I know I ovulate from the left side (luckily I get ov pain and side-specific spots) - so as to avoid any further ectopic dramas!!!

I'm made up for you Hairy.
You deserve a break! X

hairytriangle · 04/07/2010 19:06

cheers pretty I now have all sorts of worries aobut what if this and what if that. But, I guess i just have to wait til Thu to see the doctor.

Just noticed a typo up there - I put 'not quite safe' but what I meant was 'not dangerous'
