Spotting and cramping at 4 weeks

Hi all

I am 4 weeks pregnant after a miscarriage at 8 weeks in January this year. Last night i had a small amount of brown spotting and some cramping, very similar to what marked the start of my first miscarriage. it has all stopped now but I don't really know what to do. Is there any point in going to an EPU at this early stage? Will they be able to see anything if they scan me? Should I just wait and see what happens for a few days? I have a GP appointment at the end of the week that was suppose to be to sort out being referred to a midwife so I could see what she says then... I had no bleeding at all in my first (and successful) pregnancy.

Anyone had cramping and spotting and it worked out? Is there any point in trying to remain optimistic?! Heeeelp! I'm driving myself mad and on my own with a toddler for the next 3 weeks.

Have you had a positive test?

It could be fine. I had lots of pain at 7 weeks and the midwife said I would lose the baby. He is now 9.

I hope it goes well.

Hi FAB, thanks. Yes, had lots of positives. Was quite feint at first but now is very strong, even today.

I wouldn't do any more tests. When I started bleeding I did a test and thought all was fine when I was getting positives though it was a complicated situation.

Just try and relax. Hard, I know.

hi there, poor you. you are only four weeks, so there would be no point whatsoever going to an EPU - they wouldn't be able to see anything and might upset you by saying you are just having a slightly late period not a miscarriage. all you can really do is wait and see. its horrible, i know.

At 4 weeks the EPU could do blood tests to check see if your HCG levels are rising, but even that in itself can bee confusing.

With DS2 I had lots of bleeding, clots and cramping, its wasa scary time but he was born full term and very healthy

However, I am going through the same thing at the moment, I am currently 5 weeks 1 day pregnany and I had a small amount of spotting at exactly 4 weeks, again at 5 weeks and again this morning.

I already have an EPU scan booked for friday so trying to hold out till then as I will be just shy of 6 weeks then and we will be able to tell for sure.

Fingers crossed for you x

Thanks all

I'm cramping again a bit this evening. But I think I'm going to wait it out and see what happens before my GP appointment at the end of the week. If I am miscarrying again, there is nothing I can do to stop it and hopefully it will just happen quickly.

Julezboo - really hope everything is ok on Friday and you end up with another baby come Feb next year!

Hi twink. Am stalking you as I wanted to know if you are ok...have been thinking of you,and harnessing the power of the besh...

TwinkleToes76 · 22/06/2010 20:21

Hi Gin! Thank you for stalking me! I'm ok, no more bleeding or cramping but also don't feel pregnant anymore. EPU said come in at 7 weeks so I just have a lot of waiting to do I guess! I feel a lot calmer and pretty pragmatic about it; there is nothing i can do to stop it happening so I just need to get on with my life until I miscarry or get a scan, which ever comes first.

How are you feeling? You must be about 4.5 weeks as well? Are you having lots of tests to check it's in the right place?

Thanks for thinking about me!

hope it is all ok
i had 1 m/c at 5+5 last month, all I can say is in my experience with my 1st pg (got 1 dd) around the time my period was due I had some browny spotting and pinky discharge for 1-2 days and lots of cramping, felt as though af was about to arrive, but nothing. once i got +hpt was on major knicker watch but thankfuly no more spoting and uneventful pg (thou I did have cramping on and off for a good few weeks with the pg, i think cramping can be quite normal). with the miscraaiage i had the same early spotting but at 5+5 had lot of cramping all of a sudden and then bright red spotting, the spotting went on all afternoon then gradually got heavier. when i contacted epu they said the same sort of thing hopefully you will not have any more bleeding and get a scan in a couple of weeks, unfortunatley bleeding got worse later that evening and I was sure that I had definatley miscarried

just a thought but an idea may be to go see your gp for blood test, then if you go back in 3 days to see if the results/hcg levels are increased that would give you answer before epau scan
