I have had a miscarriage at 9 weeks, started with some light bleeding on Saturday, I went to Dr's on Monday who sent be straight to Gynae ward for a scan and blood test, confirmed miscarriage and told me to come back in 3 weeks time for another scan to see if everything has gone.

I haven't been offered any sort of medical management or erpc, it wasn't even discussed with me and only now I have stopped to think about it it seems strange that I have to wait 3 weeks Now it has been confirmed I have miscarried I really just want it all over and to move on from it as quickly as I can but feel like I have 3 weeks of waiting to do before I get any confirmation that it is over.

Anyone else followed this course of action after a miscarriage?

am so sorry for your loss. have you just had light bleeding ? Am surprised at 3 weeks !! have had 2 miscarriages myself ( have 3 children inbetween ) my first miscarriage had full miscarriage all on same day. then scan following day to confirm . all ok no other appointments. My seconde had bleeding day one then scan day2 and appointment for day 5 for medical treatment but fully miscarried day3. still had medical management on day 5. no other appointments after that. Is this your 1st miscarriage?

Hi apple, I'm very sorry for your loss.

I think most people are offered the option of wait and have a natural miscarriage, have an erpc or have medical management. I have had two and each time all the options were fully explained by one of the gynae doctors and when I opted for a natural mc I was told if I changed my mind, if the bleeding got very heavy or the pains very severe to come back. I wasn't asked to come back for a follow up but if I was still bleeding after 3 weeks or if I didn't think everything had passed I would have gone back. Similarly I was warned any signs of infection to go to my GP etc.

Are you happy waiting for a natural mc? Because if you aren't ring the hospital or see your GP to refer you back.

Yes this is my first miscarriage. I have been bleeding a lot and passing clots, severe cramps and stomach ache.

I rang the gynae ward after posting on here and they have said that it is normal procedure as I have starting bleeding etc to have a natural mc rather than surgery/medical.

Although thinking about it I would prefer to not have surgery I would of liked to have been given a choice as I feel 3 weeks is a long time to wait to be given the all clear. I just feel it is hanging over me when I just want to move on.

Thanks for your replies.

I'm in the middle of the second stage of my miscarraige and I've fought to keep it natural all the way as I want to try again asap - they wanted to give me an injection but I said no, as I'd started a second bleed (first was three days, then 22 days later I started to bleed, and have bled for 11 days - in between the two days, I had slow rising HCG pregnancy hormone, but at second bleed it started to go down.

I think the preference is to have natural mc if possible, it's less disruptive to the body, presumably.
