retained products or weird cycle?

Hi Ladies,

I have a question I'm hoping you can help with...

I had a natural mc beginning on 9 April at 7 + 4, bled for 8 days, thought everything was fine (been feeling okay physically--rather tired, but no fever, strange discharge, anything like that). Started bleeding again Saturday, thought it might be my period returning, albeit a bit earlier than expected (my cycle is 27 days normally, but after my first mc 2 years ago, AF did take an extra week or two to return), but yesterday had pains at regular intervals, and passed some large clots (a few were about the size of my palm), and a strange smell. I was on antibiotics for an abscessed tooth for 20 days beginning the day after the mc started... is it possible that I had retained products and never got an infection because I was already on antibiotics for something else? Has anyone had experience with this?

Am going to call Ob/Gyn as soon as office opens this morning (I live in the eastern US, so it's only 8:10 here), but looking for advice/reassurance/hand-holding in the meantime...

Hi JessiLynn, Your post is a few days old now, so hopefully your situation is resolved by now.

I have had several MCs and have always been advised to have a scan after the bleeding has stopped to make sure process is complete. My understanding is that you can have retained products and not get an infection, but still have a nasty time.
