Hi there

Last November i should have been 12 weeks pregnant but had mmc, the erpc. not a very good time at all. Its now April i have in the last 2 months had bright red bleeds not lasting long. I have been to docs for blood tests and they say my platelets are low, my iron low and possibly keeping eye on heomoglobin levels!! Well i finished a period last week, monday i had a burst of red blood again and a clot, tonight wednesday i totally flooded it ran all down my legs and everywhere before i could get to the bathroom and loads of clots. I did have an ultrasound scan a week n half ago and viginal scan and lady said everything looked to be fine but i have a few fibroids. I think these are what caused my miscarriage. I am 40 years old and my new partner really wants another child so what we both went through last november was just awful. Has anybody else had this and what treatment will i be offered as all i can think right now is hystorectomy....... x

Hi, I'm sorry for your mc last year, I mc'd aboutthe same time, horrible time.

I don't really have direct comparable experience but I do have a small fibroid, that was known about before my pregnancy. It is small and within the wall of my womb if that makes sense. This means less likely to cause mc than a fibroid that projects into the womb, or so it was explained to me by the doctor.

Do you know where the fibroid is (i.e. in the wall of your womb or inside your womb?).

Are you having a follow up appointment after your scan? They should explain then.

I don't think fibroids necessarily mean hysterectomy so don't panic, it's certainly never been suggested for me (although I know I only have one). Nor was I told to stop TTC.

Good luck.

Hi Claire

SOrry for your lose too, i know how you feel. I have called the doctors today and they said they have my results back and that the doctor has to see them yet and receptionist said no point in booking appointment to see doc unless there was something wrong, well bleeding really bad with clots on Wednesday this week tells me something is wrong!!!! so she booked me an appointment for next tuesday at 11.40 so hopefully then i find out where my fibroids are as lady who did scan said i had several fibroids which is probably why i bleed heavy on my periods. But all this bleeding in between is getting me down as i talk to girls at work and they say i probably end up with hystorectomy. Scary! When i found out i was pregnant i wanted it so bad but worried with my age (40) i thought i had one more chance but now all this!

Hi Sharon,
I miscarried in September last year too, and the cause was fibroids. The only difference was that I had previously had fibroids and already a large fibroid (grapefruit sized) removed. I have subsequently had another fibroid removed.

Fibroids depend a lot on location. So in a good scenario if the fibroid is easy to reach say in the womb then you can have it removed via resection or hysterscopic myomectomy (no cuts to stomach) normally with a couple of injections to shrink the fibroid before hand. If that isn't possible they may offer you a myomectomy which does involve cutting the stomach/abdomen. Again injections to reduce the size of the fibroid. Normally you have to wait 6 - 12 months before ttc.

Hysterectomy is very much a last resort now, and don't panic too much as to what people are saying.

In terms of life while you have the fibroids, your gp can give you medicine to reduce the level of bleeding, to stop the clotting.

I hope that helps

Mrs Snow
