Aspirin - should I take? When?

Have one DS, but had 2 mc already this year (one at 5 wks, one mmc which found out about at 9 wks in early March).

Currently TTC, ov'd a day or two ago I think.

Have been wondering about taking aspirin just as precaution - is it worth it? If so, is there a special kind, and when do I need to start?

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I've also had two miscarriages and went on to have a normal pregnancy, and this happens to many women, and hopefully to you as well.

I would not take aspirin unless it was prescribed by a specialist doctor, as the causes of miscarriage vary.

I would urge you to NOT take asprin as well.
You first defo need to establish if clotting is a problem for you...by having blood taken.
What ever you do, dont just start taking it, it is not the cure for all mc.
See your gp for blood tests.

fwiw i do understand your thinking and the desperation after 2 horrid experiences, but please dont do this.

I had recurrent mcs (3 in a row) and was told no aspirin, but this was a good few years ago. I wouldn't do anything without consulting the doctor if I were you. While you're at the doc's, ask about progesterone therapy -- this is done a lot in the US for recurrent mcs.

frazzled i wouldnt advise to take it without having relevant tests 1st.

although i did with my last pg. didnt work for me.

that said i am trying it again this time. been on 150mg (two baby aspirin) daily since day 14 then will start claxane shots in about 2 weeks. (still cant belive im pg!!) this was prescibed by my consultant (private)

if it doesnt work it will at least be something to rule out for me.

my test dont show any of the recognised thrombophelia's.

i know how you are feeling. it feels like, when you take the aspirin you are 'doing something', being proactive etc.

I thought it was harmless, but having read this I promise not to take anything till a doctor tells me to - you're quite right, is just my desperation to feel I'm doing something to avoid going through this again. It's horrible - am desperate to get pg, but don't actually really believe I'll do anything other than mc.

Frazzled I was discussing this with Mr Rai yesterday and he said specifically that it was not something to take until you've had a positive pg test. He was happy with me taking it once I did have a positive result (caveat: I have PCO and am on Metformin, and in this instance he said stopping Met and starting on aspirin is a good approach - so this may not hold true as good advice for everyone).

In terms of feeling you're doing something, maybe you can just make sure you get an extra fruit/veg ration on board, or try positive visualisation or something - hope that doesn't sound trivial as a suggestion, but what I mean is do something that is going to be good for you in any event, makes you feel positive and carries no risks to you or any embryo.

That's a good suggestion about the extra fruit/veg.

I stopped drinking full strength coffee when I got pregnant again.

Folic acid is a good idea.

My rmc consultant advice is to take asprin before trying for a bfp so thought I would add that into the mix!

I am begining to think none of them knows.

Anyway I am now 6+1 after 5mc and I am taking asprin just for the hell of it along with cyclogest.

I am utterly terrified but taking an hour at a time.

I have just had about 15 blood tests for causes of miscarriages, and some of them were for clotting. can you not request these tests?
