WHAT IS GOING ON?

Hi everyone,

could do with some advice/experience

I found out i was pregnant with a early pregnancy test on a monday, was due my period the following Friday, so found out very early, did tests all week all faint but there, Friday (day my period was due) i did a digital test that said "pregnant" but i started to bleed Friday night and carried on like a period.

The doctor said i had a very early MC and if i hadn't of tested would of never of known. so basically nothing to be done just rest etc. Also got told once bleeding had stopped to take another test. I took a digital one and it came up "not pregnant" so that was that.

But since then i feel sick, waking up in the night feeling soo sick, and sore breast's, headaches (which i never get) and exhausted. So my DH said to call GP so i did, he said just take another test.

So today i took a FR test and there was a line , faint, but def line???

What's going on with me :-( i have to wait till Monday now to see my GP i feel in limbo and would very much appreciate any opinion on this.

TIA

mumsie sorry you are in this situation.

it doesn't look good if you had a positive digital followed by a negative. they arent the most sensative tests though. you coyuld have mc'd and still had a + on fr because they are more sensative.

there isnt alot you can do other than wait. have you tested again since? or you could ask for hcg bloods to be done 48 hours apart. your hormone levels should pretty much double in a viable pg.

either way i wish you luck, hope you have good support in rl.

GrumpyFish · 09/04/2010 18:50

I don't really know, but didn't want your post to go unanswered.

Could you do another FR response in the morning and see if the line looks darker? I had a chemical pregnancy, and the tests all went neg once the bleeding started. It could be though that it's just taking a bit longer for the hormones to get out of your system - but if I'm reading your post right, that would be a week since the bleeding started that the FR test showed up positive: that does seem (in my unexpert opinion) like quite a while for a chemical pregnancy.

Another possibility is that the digi test was just wrong. With my last pg (also ended in MC, but this was a good few weeks before the MC so I don't think that's relevant), I'd had quite a few FR positives, and one digi positive, but the day AF was due I tested in the evening with a CB digi which said "not pregnant", and I just assumed was another chemical preg. But the next morning (I tested again because i felt v preg) FR was quite an obvious line, so I think it must just have been too dilute in the evening to show up on the digi - they are a bit less sensitive than FR. Some people do still have periods (or at least period type bleeding) during early pregnancy.

Re line being faint, I find that FR lines are quite faint (i.e. much lighter than control) for a good few weeks.

Sorry that you are going through all of this. Hopefully your GP will be able to give you a more informed answer.

mumsie123 · 09/04/2010 18:57

Thank you grumpyfish

i tested on 15th march period was due 19th march got positives all week and friday, started bleeing friday and finished on the 26th so that was about 2 week's ago i stopped bleeding.

I would of been 7 weeks today so thought if i was still pregnant (proberly getting my hopes up) then surely the line would be dark?

I'm sorry you have also been through this, such a horrible thing for any woman to have.

Mumsie, sorry if stupid Q but this couldn't be a new pregnancy could it? I got pg 2 weeks after a MC earlier this year so it's perfectly possible.

mumatron · 09/04/2010 19:48

so you had a bfp day before af due and that would of been 3 weeks ago?

well, as grumpy says could possibly be a very new pregnancy hence the faint line.

how long are your cycles normally?

mumsie123 · 09/04/2010 19:56

def not a new pregnancy 100%

My cycle is 27 days exact.

i had a BFP monday (which would of been 4 days before my actual period was due) and all the way up to Friday when i got a "pregnant" from the digital, but started bleeding that night which was the day my
period was due.

sorry if this is all confussing.

mumatron · 09/04/2010 20:05

but was it 3 weeks ago? if it was a chemical pg, you would probably have ovuated as normal, have you had sex since the bleeding stopped? (sorry to be so personal)

could you possibly see a different gp to see about refferal to epu or getting the bloods done?

if you bled 3 weeks ago and still getting bfp you should get yourself checked out.

i was still getting bfps for about 3 weeks after mc but i was 9 weeks.

mumsie123 · 09/04/2010 20:10

No we havet had sex since, yes i think that would make it 3 weeks today it all started.

I'm so upset cause i just dont have a clue what is going on , never had a MC before, i have 2dc and been very lucky.

That is exactly what i thought surely my hormones wouod have gone down by now.

It is a very faint line but still aline, i feel like crying!

OP posts:
mumatron · 09/04/2010 20:26

hmm, well defo not a new pg then, its all very odd. is the line on the latest fr darker than the lines on the tests you had before af was due?

if you should be 7+ wks you would expect a darker line. although there are so many women on here who never got dark lines.

sorry mumsie, cant offer any real advice. but i do know how hard it is to mc, especially after having 2 dc already. it comes as a massive shock.

mumsie123 · 09/04/2010 20:34

Thank you for helping, i know so odd i feel a bit let down by my body.

The line was about the same as what i got before i would thought, and i really thought that i would get my finally result today either dark line or no line (actually never thought about the dark line)

it's like a never ending nightmare, keep having dreams and seeing BFP in them , my body can be cruel.

mumatron · 09/04/2010 21:08

i think your best bet is trying gp's again. maybe try seeing a different one if you feel last one didnt take you seriously enough.

either way you should not be getting faint lines and bleeding at 7+ wks.

hope you get some answers soon.

Tads · 10/04/2010 00:02

Hmmmm I'm a bit baffled as to how you'd get a negative and then a positive unless the tests/ your hormones are a bit screwy. I did wonder if you might have had a situation like my friend, who was offered a D&C for her missed mc, but just felt very strongly that she should go the natural route and ended up giving birth to the twin she hadn't miscarried 9 months later. Obviously don't want to get your hopes up, but as grumpyfish says it seems a bit late for a chemical pregnancy.

I had positive tests for about a month after my mc, but that doesn't explain the negative followed by a positive. I know the wait is excruciating but would advise that you test again in a couple of weeks (if I was you I'd be testing every day by the way!) just to see if your hormones are causing weird results.

Very, very sorry you're going through this and hope you get closure one way or another sooner rather than later. x

mumsie123 · 10/04/2010 08:30

Ok so just did another test this morning with first wee, NEGAGTIVE , noit a hint of a line.

STRANGE!! i made my DH look at both tests and he agreed def no line this morning and def a faint one yesterday, same test's out of same box.

OP posts:
mumatron · 10/04/2010 15:43

well mumsie i would think it was probably just residual hormones then. test again in a few days or wait until af arrives (or doesn't)

meatntattypie · 10/04/2010 16:05

Hi, From my experience (5 mcs) it can take many weeks for the hormones of pregnancy to fade and go altogether.
Along with this, the symptoms of pregnancy as well take some time to fade.
The only other thing to consider if you are feeling unwell is that possibly you have retained some of the pregnancy, in other words, it has not all come away.
You may need to have an internal scan just to make sure, or even have your bloods taken to check the levels are going down.
Do you have an early pregnancy assessment unit near you?

meatntattypie · 10/04/2010 16:07

Sorry, didnt see your additional posts, sorry its all over for you, its utter shite,
VBest wishes x

Lotta123 · 10/04/2010 17:12

Ask your doctor to refer you to an early pregnancy unit. They will be able to scan you and let you know exactly what is going on.

mumsie123 · 10/04/2010 18:17

Thank you all for taking the time to post and help.

I think im going to just leave it niw and i suppose if anything else like period doesnt arrive on anything else i'll pop down, i think the doctors are sick of me lol
