Miscarriage over Easter. What to expect.

I should be 7 weeks pregnant but last weekend had spotting. It stopped after a couple of days but I realised any pg symptoms had also gone. I'm fairly resigned to Conceiving no. 3 being a difficult ride as I'm older now. Anyway, work has been horrible this week and it took until Thursday for a gp to call me back. I then had a gp appt and will have to wait until after the holiday weekend to arrange a scan at the local epu. I'm looking after the kids all this week then have a week of study course which I cannot afford to miss. I just don't know how to fit dealing with a miscarriage in and what I can expect. I'm having more spotting this weekend but still no sign of anything resembling a heavy period. I just want to clear this up and move on.

Not sure why I'm posting really, but just hoping for a bit of support and perhaps to hear advice from other people who have had similar experiences.

Hi there, I'm so sorry you're in this situation. It's so bad you had to wait all that time for a GP to call you back and now have this wait over the weekend.

As regards miscarriage, you may find that nothing happens at all and things hold off until you're in a better position to be able to deal with it all. Plenty of people on here have got quite a long way through, with their bodies not realising anything was wrong. I had a missed miscarriage last week at just over 9 weeks, baby had died at just before 8. It was found at what was meant to be a routine scan. They examined me and it didn't look like I was going to mc naturally any time soon.

I went in for an ERPC that day, which lots of people on here have had. It's a very quick procedure. If you don't mind having an op and want a quick physical recovery, that could be the way to go for you.

Other people on here have miscarried naturally or with medical management and they can tell you more about that.

Of course, it may all turn out to be alright for you. There were people on the pregnancy thread I was on with similar symptoms to yours and it turned out fine. So I really do hope you have good news next week.

Not much to add to what lunatic said(apart from sorry) -strong painkillers, hot water bottle also helps. Also you may have a period of intense loss- with contractions , acute loss - I went and got myself checked at a and e as was over one pad an hour limit but was still ok.

Would echo the natural over erpc as I felt I'll a whole lot longer.

Hi Tiredandgrumpy, Very, very sorry to hear of your situation.

I have two small children and had a miscarriage three days ago. Started with symptoms similar to yours last weekend and I decided this time to have it removed surgically. (I miscarried a few years ago and let it happen naturally). I have to say that for me this way was much easier. The procedure was quick, the hospital staff very supportive and now I am physically feeling fine and able to look after my children. Of course I am still feeling fragile emotionally (and very short tempered!). Last time I felt exhausted for a month and the miscarriage itself was not something I ever wish to experience again.

Thank you all for your very helpful advice. I had a missed mc 7 years ago before kids and had erpc then. I remember feeling very low but couldn't remember whether that was emotionally or physically. I suspect this time I won't need surgical assistance but from what you say, this might be the quickest way of moving on. Fingers crossed that the nhs moves efficiently this week so this doesn't drag on any longer.
