Molar pregnancy

I had my 6th MMC (11.5) early Jan and 2 weeks ago I got a call fron EPU to go in as the test results post ERPC came back as a Partial Molar.

We saw a Consultant who then refered us to Sheffeild.
I was given a leaflet and told to wait until Sheffield contact me so I can send them samples to check my HCG levels.

I've not yet started my cycle either (D56 of a very regular 27)
I have done several POAS and they were negative so I can't have that much hormone floating about.
The Consultant didn't take any bloods or scan me and didn't seem worried about it?!

I don't want to Google this too much and I was hoping that someone may have had a Molar and could shed some light/ tell me lovely sucess stories, as I'm going out of my mind having to wait for another month for any definate answer.

I had a molar pregnancy before I had my DD.

Sorry to hear that but glad to see you have your DD.

I know every case is different but it's just stuff like; still having no period, How long was it before you could start TTC? How you coped? What support did you get?

i had a partial molar back in june which i had to have a D&C for i then fell pregnant agin in august and im now 28 weeks pregnant xx is there anything specific you wanted to know x

also they told me i shouldnt fall pregnant until my hormones return to normal (at least 6 months) but i have never been very good at waiting or doing as im told (sorry doc) but my pregnancy is going well and no abnormalities in my recent blood tests xx

NO problem. I will try to dredge my memory as it was 14+ years ago now!

The first thing I knew about being pregnant was that my period was late and then I had some wierd, heavy bleeding - it was not a planned pregnancy. Once it was confirmed as a molar pregnancy, I had a D+C which was a bit scary, but OK. I can't remember how long it was till my periods re-started, but they did They were similar to before it in terms of length of cycle and heaviness, etc.

The follow-up involved me sending samples of urine at regular intervals to the hopital, for a year or maybe 2? Luckily there were no additional problems, but I had to be under a consultant for my pregnancy with DD.

I fell pregnant with DD immediately we decided to go for it - was about 2 1/2 - 3 years after the molar one. There were no problems at all with the pregnancy, but I think I might have had to do another sample afterwards (or am I imagining that!)

I am sure you will be fine with your next pregnancy - I seem to remember that it's very rare to have another molar one.

When I was at the hosp, they gave me a leaflet about a support group - have you been given anything? If not, try googling for one? You might be able to speak to someone with more recent experience - I seem to have forgotten all the details

Hmmmm.... I was told that I'd have to wait too but much like yourself xxkt1xx I'm not very patient.
Congratulations on your pregnancy so soon after, that's lifted my spirits.
I'm 31 and after 6 MC really want to keep trying asap but not sure if it's not a good idea.
The thought of possibly having to wait 6-12 months creases me.
I suppose it's a waiting game to see how high my levels are and for AF to arrive....
I'm concerened that no period = cells still floating around.
I never thought I'd ever be hoping for it so much.
I just want to get back to normal.

i was the same i didnt want to wait...my hormone levels were still high but if you do decide to wait its condoms for you as you are not allowed to take the pill or have the injection...they were adamant with me that i shouldnt fall pregnant but as i say im a stubborn impatient cow...its really your decision...let me know how u get on xx

The doc did say we'd have to use condoms but I'd also like to know where I am in my cycle

this is my thread from about 2 years ago. the good news is 5 months old and responsible for my bad typing. i had a regrowth and was in follow-up for about 8 mo in all - see it as a time to try to get in really good shape. good luck!

Thankfully it looks like no one else has had one recently.
Looks like you had lots of support and good advice, I knew it was rare and I've also said the same about the odds on the Lottery

Hi there,

First, I'm so sorry about your loss. I had a Partial in April 08 and it took forever for my levels to reach zero (weekly blood smapes to Sheffield). Happily I fell pg with DS once my levels reached zero, but 4 months into the 6 month wait (eek). Jan at Sheffield was fabulous and very confident it wouldn't be another MP (as it obviously wasn't)
Just wanted to pass on a website that was set up by a girl called Meisha after she had a MP a few years ago. Everyone on there has been through a MP and there is a post molar site for those TTC and with LOs. Such amazing girls and lots of information from everyone going through follow up at Sheffield and Charing Cross

I've sent the first of my samples off so I'm now waiting to see what my levels are.
I hope I've not got to wait too long as I'm itching to start TTC again

I understand, the wait is very hard. Once your levels reach zero they usually ask you to wait 6 months but we were pg 4 months into that 6 month wait and Sheffield were very understanding.
I hope your levels are down, mine were insanely high even after 2 d&cs, but eventually sorted themselves out. Am here for you if you want to talk and am glad you're going to check the site out, was a life saver for me xx

MrsGazebo - sorry to hear you are going through this, I hope your levels are coming down.

I had a MP in 2002, it was persistent so I had to have 2 d+c's and then have chemotherapy. It was a long wait before we could ttc again (2 years in all), but the main thing was that all molar tissue had gone. I agree with Habbibu, it is a good time to think about getting into shape, I also found it quite a relief to not have to think about ttc for a while (we had been having fertility treatment since 1999) mentally it was quite good to take a break from it and focus on other stuff.

In 2006 (I was 36) I had dd1, and a year later I had dd2, I am now pregnant with dc3. I will be in lifetime follow up (urine tests 3 times a year) - but the type of persistent mole that I had was very rare, I have had no problems with any of my pregnancies and the care I've had from the follow up centre (Charing Cross in my case) and hosiptal having extra scans has been fantastic.

I know someone who had this and it was a case of tests for 6 months. They waited till nearly 6 months before getting pregnant (I think this was very, very hard to bear). The pregnancy proceeded entirely normally and resulted in a beautiful baby girl

Just wanted to add my support for you. I had a partial molar pregancy in 2006 and it took 6 months for my levels to return to normal. then we waited 6 months before ttc. The molar pregnancy was one of 5 mcs and I found it so, so hard. We did have our lovely DS in 2008 so got there in the end, but I will never forget the experience. I hope your levels are coming down and that you are getting support in RL too,

Thanks Danceswithfools lovely to hear you went on to have your DS.

My levels are now near enough zero and I've spoken to Sheffeild.
Their "advice" was to wait 6 months from MC (Jan) but were very nice and understanding in my wanting to start TTC sooner as I also have NK cells to contend with.

They said that "If results are normal,many ladies do sometimes choose to get pregnant sooner than the 6 months and go on to have healthy pregnancies"

But they couldn't recommend it

Sorry about double post, my laptop threatened to crash so I quickly posted.

We may not be out of the woods just yet as just a few days later futher results from cytogenetics were flagged up and we've been asked to wait until we are seen by a Genetics Counselor as a duplication of chromosome 22 was seen.

We'll get there...
