Chatting to a lovely friend today, first time I'd seen her since recent mc. I said hadn't been too worried initially as had spotting with DS so thought things might be ok - obviously then found out they weren't. She asked me if I thought I might have miscarried a twin of DS. (to explain the bleeding I suppose). So, now as well as feeling awful about mc, I am wondering about potentially having lost another one years ago?? Don't want to talk to DH about this as will upset him too.. so turning to you lovely people for answers!

Oh no! Foot in mouth moment? Perhaps she didn't realise how painful that could be, mentioning something like that

Don't think about it! It was just a silly comment by her. I'm sure it wasn't the case at all.

As I said lovely friend, just really unfortunate remark! I'll try not to dwell on it.

people say the strangest, most upsetting things, without meaning to cause any offense. bit unlikely that you'd only have spotting if you really did miscarry a twin - logically i'm sure you know the scenario she suggested is pretty unlikely. but it must have been a bit of a shock when she said it. i'm endlessly riled by the inappropriate things people say, but remind myself that they haven't been through it, so are speaking out of ignorance.

There are so many reasons for bleeding, aren't there? It's unlikely that was the reason, though it's understandable that you would end up dwelling on it. Hope you can let it go. X

Thank you both. I've kind of figured it couldn't have happened, but glad I came on here rather than bottling it up - and glad didn't tell DH. I'll just put it on my list of unfortunate things people have said to me recently!
