Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Recurrent miscarriage

I had a miscarriage in December. Pattern was I got what I thought was my period, then started spotting again a week later. Tested and got a positive. Went to Emergency Gynae unit and they took bloods, HCG levels were low and falling. I waited a week and pregnancy test was negative, then I got a period.

Started trying again. Got my period, but again it was lighter and shorter than normal. Then this week I got spotting again, a week later. I've done a test today and it's positive. So I guess I'm most likely miscarrying all over again?

I'm a little bit unsure what to do, except wait and do another test in a week like last time. I can't face going to the emergency gynae again, it just seems pointless as there's nothing they can do. But when it's all over should I go to my GP? Is there anything they can do to see why this is happening?

I've not been TTC for that long, so to be faced with 2 losses in 4 cycles is leaving me more than a bit confused.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to head over to my local EPU this evening, it's where I went last time so they'll have records. Will get my blood tests done and see what they say.

I'm not spotting anymore and haven't had any since middle of last week. Did a CBD today which said 2-3 weeks pregnant, so 4-5 weeks. I thought it might be lower than that if my hormone levels were declining. But there's no way to tell without the magic blood tests. So I'll get them done and if it is another mc I can ask them to find out why.

Having had several early MCs as well as having 2 DCs - IME the spotting after your 'period' isn't a 100% indicator of anything much except that you are going to be worrying. I had spotting during early pg with my DS, but also spotted before a MC.

I'll be keeping everything crossed for you.

You're right pip, it's the 'period' that worries me more than spotting. I just don't believe I can have something that looks so much like a period and still be pregnant. I know spotting is very normal, but 3 days of very dark bleeding suggests failure to me. I just can't quite believe that this would happen 2 cycles in a row!

A little update from me. I went to the EPU and had bloods taken last night. According to dates I am 6+1, so if my HCG levels are over 1000 I'm being scanned at 4pm today. Feeling very nervous. I assumed it was all over but the nurse said not to assume anything yet, so a little hope has crept in.

Good Luck for your scan. I am a sufferer of Recurrent mc. It's so heartbreaking x

Muser · 02/02/2010 11:10

Sorry to hear that Julezboo, it's an awful thing to have to go through.

Sadly I'm not getting my scan as my HCG levels are only 139 and they only scan if they're over 1000. Nurse has said not to despair as it might just mean my dates are wrong and I'm not 6 weeks yet. Got to have more bloods done tomorrow to see if the HCG levels are rising. Last time they weren't.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your next set of bloods....good luck

Thanks, but this pregnancy is going nowhere. Low HCG, low progesterone. They're just going to rule out ectopic and then I'm done.
