First Period After MC Surprisingly Normal - So Where's the Second One?

I had a MC at 8 wks back in early November. Four weeks later - almost to the day - I had a period. TBH I was surprised at how normal it was.

Now seven weeks have passed and nothing. I'm not TTC and it is extremely unlikely that I could be pregnant.

I was scanned a couple of days after the MC. Apparently my uterus was empty and the lining was as it should be so I don't think the MC was incomplete (besides it looked pretty complete to me as it actually happened).

I guess it takes a while for cycles to settle down after MC, and I'm not desperately worried but I'd be interested to hear from others that this has happened to.

sorry to hear about your mc. your hormones are probably all over the place. but tbh you gp is probably better placed to advise you. take care and hopefully normal service will be resumed soon.

Hi OtterInaSkoda. Sorry to hear of your loss. Just thought I'd say hello as I am in a very similar situation. The only difference is that I bled for so long after my miscarriage that I had to take the pill for a month to try to settle things down, so my first period was actually more of a withdrawal bleed at the end of the pack as opposed to a normal period. I also had a scan during this time which showed no retained products so doctors were a bit baffled as to why it was still happening.

Six weeks later and it seems I am not ovulating or having periods. Unfortunately, I am TTC so it's all very frustrating. I've read on various sites that some people begin menstruating normally very quickly after miscarriages and others take 2-3 months for their hormones to settle down, but it is largely dependent on whether or not you had a natural loss or a D&C and the fact that everyone is built differently. Some women have taken even longer to get back to a normal cycle. I realise this isn't a great deal of comfort whilst you're waiting and wondering, but you certainly aren't alone and probably shouldn't be unduly worried if you aren't TTC at the moment. Hopefully we will both get back to normality sooner rather than later.

Hi

I have read that many women experince irregular periods after a MC. I am only just having my 1st period 9 weeks after my period and so no idea what to expect for the next one. It was so awful waiting that long and wondering if something was wrong. Sounds like your hormones are not fully settled but the fact that you got your 1st one on time is a good sign. Might be worth speaking to your GP.

Thanks EleanoraBuntingCupcake, Tads and sh77

I'll give it another week or two and then go along and see my GP.
