Anyone had retained tissues after ERPC?

Hi

I had my ERPC 7 weeks ago and have had no period. I have ovulated twice but in between when my period should have come, I had awful pains but no bleeding. I am still having shooting pains in my breasts, which never get unless pregnant. I have had no spotting either.

I know it can take time for the body to settle back after a MC, but I just wondered if you had retained products when did you realise? I know that adhesions are a possibility after ERPC and so I will get this checked out. Would be grateful to hear of any experiences.

Have you done a [pregnancy test after the erpc? My GP thought that I had retained tissue as I was still bleeding 5 weeks after the erpc. So I had another scan which showed a small amount of tissue left. I had to do a pregnancy test then which showed negative so they said to me not to worry and it would eventually pass. The bleeding did stop around 6 weeks after erpc. My period came back 8 weeks after erpc (think I told you this in a previous thread) and I did have period pains for about 2 weeks before that. I too had some funny feelings in my breasts. I think maybe you should do a pregnancy test if you haven't done so. That is the advice I got. Hope your body gets back to normal soon. All the best.

Hi Sh77 - Yes I had retained products after my erpc. Had my first erpc on 3rd November, bleed for 4 wks after then stoped. The bleeding was dark blood and very sticky clotty blood (sorry if tmi). On 8th December I was being investigated for recurrent miscarriages and I was scaned to check my uterus/cervix etc this scan showed retained products, I couldn't believe it. I was then sent back to the hospital who carried out the erpc and they had to scan me again which they confirmed they had left some retained products. The consultant said it was not normal to bleed for 4wks after my erpc and I should of requested a scan at the epu. I was booked in for my 2nd erpc on 16th December, I spotted for 1 day after then no bleeding at all. Totally different from my 1st erpc, I started bleeding 4 days later which I think may of been my 1st period as it was bright red blood this time and felt more like a period (I actually came on here to put a post up to see if this was my 1st period after my erpc)

Doing a pregnancy test will not be able to answer if you have retained products.
The hospital done one on me and it came up negative even tho I had the retained products and there was quite alot of retained products they had left. I suggest you call your epu or whoever has been dealing with your m/c / erpc. I would insist on another scan. Are you still bleeding? How long did you bleed for after your erpc?

Sorry you are going through this, it is awful. Just when you try and getting things back to a bit of normality your back to square 1 with the dreaded thought of another erpc.

My thoughts are with you.

Hi lulu

Thank you for sharing your experince. So sorry for your losses and for what you went through with the retained products.

I haven't bled at all since erpc. I was just worried as I was convinced from cramps 2 weeks after ov that my period would come. I am in my 8th week since the op and my boobs are still sore. I know I am not pregnant. I went to EPU today and was scanned, which showed no reatined products (relief) but I don't understand why my body s behaving like this. She wouldn't do HCG blood test as there was no tissue to be seen. It is interesting that your tests were negative despite having tissues.

She said my lining was still thin (6mm). She also said for implantation lining needed to be 7mm and so I guess my lining isn't too bad. She just put it down to my body getting back to normal and stress. I will give it 2 more weeks for period to ome back. If not, will see a specialist.

Re your recent bleeding - as your body would have tried to get back to normal after 1st erpc, it could well have been your period after the second one. Your uterus lining had ticme to thicken, which is why you may have had red blood. Do you know if you ovulated before the 2nd erpc)

x

Hi sh77 - Good news that you have no retained products but think it makes it worse for you not knowing why your body hasn't got back to normal and why your periods haven't started. Did the epu give any reason? Looking on here I think it has taken some ladies a lot longer then others for there Periods to come back. Fingers crossed you wont have to wait to long. I'm not sure if I ovulated before my 2nd erpc, is there a way of telling without doing a test? Is this your 1st m/c? x x x email me on [email protected] if you prefer.

Hi lulu

EPU gave no reason except to say let nature take its course. I am worried about scarring after the ERPC and so giving it 2 weeks. Re ov - I didn't use any ov tests but could tell from changes in cervical mucus.
