pregnant after MMC?

I had a MMC in November last year and am rather stunned to find that I am now apparently pregnant again (especially stunned as I had to have IVF to conceive my DD).

Thing is, I feel absolutely no symptoms and am currently feeling almost certain that the same thing is going to happen again.

Anyone else been through this? How early is the earliest you can have a scan to find out if the pregnancy is viable?

At the moment I'm not really allowing myself to believe I'm pregnant as I can't bear the idea of going through another miscarriage.

hello,
I had an MMC in April at 10 weeks and got pregnant straight after (no period in between). I am now 36 weeks (and very uncomfy and grumpy but still pregnant so not complaining really!) so there defo is hope. The first few weeks are nervewracking but remember a scan with a heartbeat past 10 weeks you have less than 1% chance of losing it. From the miscarriage assoc:

Research has shown that if you see a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy, the chances of the pregnancy continuing are 78%. A heartbeat at 8 weeks increases the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks to 99.4%. So things could still go wrong, but as long as there is a heartbeat, the risk of miscarriage decreases as the weeks go by. www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/ma2006/information/ultrasound.htm

I had a scan with a heartbeat at 6weeks with the one I lost and was told "i wouldn't miscarry" which I now know to be false- still a 22% chance at that stage so try and wait until at least 8weeks if you can.

Good luck- and there is defo hope. Go to pregnant after miscarriage thread- that may help with support too.
xxx

I am 19 weeks pg after a MMC 3 yrs ago. Was very difficult for me to not be totally panicked by this pg. I waited to the 12 week scan though and everything was fine.

Good luck

I has a mmc at 13 weeks at the end of April. I'm now nearly 28 weeks pregnant - due 2nd April. After my mmc, I had one cycle of not trying, one cycle of trying, and then I got pregnant again on the next cycle - so a space of 3 months. I was scanned at 5+5 weeks, and then every 2 weeks after that until I got to 13 weeks. They could already see at 5+5 that the pregnancy was viable, and the other scans were just to give me reassurance as the pregnancy progressed. I know it's really hard, but try not to worry too much about it - I really recommend doing lots of things to try and keep your mind off it all...

upsoearly I had an mmc in April last year at 9 weeks (although growth stopped at 6-7 weeks) I had a scan at 7 +3 and at that stage it showed a slow heartbeat and the baby was too small - i went back a week later and the baby had died.

So - on Monday I had my 12 week scan as am now pregnant again - and all was fine . This time I decided to have an early scan close to 8 weeks (it was actually 7 + 6 ) and i pretty much had no symptoms of pregnancy at all until about 6.5 weeks... then I started to feel sick. But my 'symptoms' have never been that bad this time - in fact they were worse with the mmc... So I frequently have been thinking the worst - especially with the lack of symptoms... but this time has been ok so far...

Until the scan on Monday I have not allowed myself to this it would all be ok (even though I saw heartbeat etc at 7 +6 )... so I sympathise.

Anyway - congratulations!

Thanks for all your speedy responses! And congatulations on your pregnancies. I have also posted on the pregnancy after miscarriage thread which I hadn't spotted before.

I think I'll see if I can get a scan at 7/8 weeks at the EPU. I'm sure it will seem an age though. Never thought I'd be longing for nausea and exhaustion...

How pregnant are you? 4 or 5 weeks?

I was so so worried about lack of nausea...

Hello upsoearly,

Congratulations!

I had a MMC in March 2009 at 13 weeks and got pregnant again after one cycle and am currently 37 weeks! big wave to Thandeka

It is such a nerve wracking experience and I had an early scan at 6 weeks to check for viable heartbeat (which they found) and then another scan again at about 8 weeks and then another at 12 weeks. My symptoms weren't that strong, however my doc put me on a low-dose of aspirin (until 36 weeks) and progesterone (until 12 weeks) once a heartbeat was detected.

I'm glad you have found the pregnancy after mc thread. MN was a bit of a lifesaver for me after the mc and the subsequent early worries you have when you are pregnant, it was good to share the journey with others.

upsoearly · 06/01/2010 16:13

Hi iggy piggy - I'm not even 5 weeks yet...

Thanks HappyBump - I guess I might be spending quite a bit of time on MN in the weeks ahead.

Hi, I'm in the same boat, just a few weeks ahead of you.

I had a mmc in Sep, had a fairly long drawn out recovery, got one period in Nov and then pg straight away. I am now 8 weeks tomorrow. My EPAU had said to me when I had the mmc taht could go to them direct when I was pg again and they would scan me from 7 weeks for reassurance. I've had one scan so far at 6+5 days and having convinced myself there would be nothing there at all (I have little symptoms too) but there was a little tadpole and heartbeat. THey will scan every couple weeks and I'm due back in few days at 8+4. I'm getting nervous again thinking about it.

So I would call your EPAU and see if they could see you in a couple weeks. It's nervewracking isn't it? I'm convinced this will go wrong too.

Keep in touch it's nice to hear from someone going through same at same time, as well as those been there before.

upsoearly · 07/01/2010 11:26

Hi clothaddict. Really good to hear from someone in the same situation. Good luck for your next scan - 8 weeks - not too long to go!

I'm going to make an appointment to see my GP ASAP and then see what she says about the EPU - my only concern is that they might not offer early scans unless you have an obvious problem ie bleeding. But I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Let me know how the scan goes!

jabbawock · 04/07/2010 10:29

hi there
am pg straight after mc - am terrified i will mc again as was 8 weeks pg when it happened. that was my third mc in five years. am not sure who to contact as i work away from home during the week and daren't tell my employers as i am a contractor working in an 'unhappy' workplace. During the last pregnancy, i tried to arrange an out of hours midwife appointment with no success and was told to register with the midwife service in the town where i worked - not feeling supported by my health service and DP is 'there' for me but otherwise useless...help :-(

DuelingFanjo · 04/07/2010 10:47

Hi there Jabbawock. I am sure there's a more recent and fairly fast moving thread which is supporting people who are pregnant after miscarriage. I'll try to find you the link.

DuelingFanjo · 04/07/2010 10:51
