Fourth miscarriage

Hi - Im on for some advice please?

Had a second scan this morning to confirm last week's scan that I have had my fourth miscarriage. My history is im 40 - 41 at the end of the month, trying for four years for #1. Have had recurrent miscarriage tests after my second miscarriage and on paper there is nothing wrong with myself or DH.

#1 miscarriage - started spotting at 6+4 weeks. Natural miscarriage
#2 miscarriage - mmc - found at 7 week scan and confirmed at 9 week scan - D&C.
#3 miscarriage - scan at 8 weeks, could see a slight heartbeat but sizing not right, natural miscarriage at 9 weeks.

Last week's scan was at 7+4 weeks - no heartbeat found and measurements were for six weeks. No spotting or pain - Probable D&C this week.

I have gone as far as I could with NHS finishing off with six months of Clomid and a hysterocopy. Had an appointment with private fertility clinic when I found out I was pregnant with #4 pregnancy. We were thrilled and the consultant started me off with Clexane, Predosoline and baby asprin. I think injecting myself gave me a pro-active opinion and we felt we had hope this time.

If you have got through this far - thank you!

My question is I dont seem to get past the six weeks mark. Has anyone else had this situation and gone onto have a full term pregnancy? Have you been given any other medication to help you through the 12 weeks mark? Or is there a name for this problem I
seem to have?

I have a follow up appointment on the 24th of this month and would like to be armed with questions.

Many thanks for all your advice in advance.

I had 4 also, although I was younger than you. Three were early -- around the 6 week mark, while one was at 13 weeks. After the first 3, which were basically one after the other, in fairly close succession, genetic tests were done, which revealed no problem. My OB put me on progesterone and when I got pg again I got past the 6 week mark, and went to term successfully. The 4th was out of the blue, and after having another baby also. I do recall having no morning sickness during those 13 weeks though.

Want to add, this was in the early 90s in the US. I'm surprised progesterone is considered unproven in the UK at this point -- my doctor in the US had talked with me about it after my 1st mc, and then after the second there was no question it was the way to go if the tests came back negative. Progesterone therapy has been around for a good while. Levels of pregnancy hormones can be measured too, to see if it's necessary. The suppositories that were prescribed for me made me sick as a newt.

Good luck xxxxx

I have taken progesterone with my successful pregnancy and am on it again now to try and sustain this pregnancy. That said I took it for my last pregnancy in december which failed. I understand that the dr's point of view is that falling progesterone is a symptom rather than a cause of miscarriage but my pov was that psychologically you feel far better if you have intervened and feel you are doing something to boost your chances, that in itself can boost your chances, so go for it. The suppositries make me feel a bit weird and thrushy but other than that are fine. Didn't know about St mary's trial... Might email raj rai. Good luck xxxx

Hi xxkt1xx thank you for that - yep, appointment tomorrow - a mixture of excitment that it is about to start and sadness that it has came to this. xxx

mathanxiety thats interesting about your US consultant point of view, my friend is in Boston and she was given it after her 2nd miscarriage. Glad it has gone on to help you go full term x

Good to see you Megmum25

Hi amelied, hope the appointment went well?

I am nearly at 12 weeks (with progesterone and low-dose heparin), scan on Thurs, nervous but hopeful.

Hi Dozer - that is great that you are nearly over the scary stage - I have every hope for you on Thursday and will have a quiet stalk to see how you are and hopefully see that scan picture on your profile.

Appointment went well, thank you - masses and masses of paperwork but got there in the end. Start taking "Norethisterone" this Saturday and then the ball really starts rolling.

As I said before quietly excited it is happening bu sad that it has come to this BUT I would walk over hot coals just to achieve becoming a mum.

Hope everyone is well

Hi all!
I know this is a dinosaur thread
And I would be very surprised if any of you are still on here 8 years later!
But I am so intrigued to know what happened to you all

I have just had my 3rd MC, 2nd MMC, all in the space of 6 months and it's just been so awful

I am seeing a consultant end of April privately but I am so scared he's going to take all my money and I'll MC again

@amelied how did IVF go? Was it a success? I really hope that whatever happened you are happy and healthy!

And how did everyone else go? I hope there were some lovely happy endings?!

Should I throw money at a consultant or just get my GP to give me progesterone and aspirin?

I'm so scared of going through this again
