What was your first period post mc like?

I ask because mine has been very short - about 3 and a half days (although not light, normal flow). I was expecting it to be heavier for some reason. I was just wondering if a shorter period was normal.

I was about 10 weeks although no development from 6 weeks and the mc was natural and really quite horrendously heavy and painful.

I can't help as I'm waiting for mine to arrive, but thought I'd bump for you. Do you mind if I ask how long after the MC actually happened did your period come?

(Am in a similar boat to you, MMC at 12 weeks but no development from about 5-6 weeks and a horrible 'natural' experience at home)

heavier than normal but mine was mc at 8 weeks - and really light and easy ( odd!)

moo it was only about 2 and a half weeks from the bleeding stopping but about 4 weeks from the bleeding being heaviest. I had signs of ovulation a few days after the bleeding stopped and period arrived two weeks later so I do think it's a proper period.

How long has it been for you since mc? Sorry for your loss

Hi I had my ERPC 20 days ago but no period yet. I think I am ovulating at the moment as I am getting EWCM. I reckon period will come in next 2 weeks.

Thanks sh77.

Just to clarify I'm not asking how long until first period just whether it was shorter or longer than normal.

Sorry for your loss.
I had my first period about 4-5 weeks later. It was heavy, painful and lasted about 8 days. My periods used to last about 3-5 days previously.
Hope that helps

hi - i've just got mine 4 weeks after my mc. mine are normally 3-4 days and this has been about 24 hours so far and already easing so i expect it will be a day or two shorter than normal.

dairymoo · 10/12/2009 21:57

Sorry Claire - I seem to have confused your thread. Thanks for your answer though, it's been two weeks since my MC. For me, I think my first new period will help me draw a line under the experience. Hope it has done the same for you.

I have had 2 miscarriages. Both were very different.
My first was similar to yours - very painful. The second my body seemed to pass with a lot more ease - perhaps knowing what to expect helped.
The first time my period returned 6 weeks later, normal flow, but shorter - 4 days, rather than my normal 7.
The second time after 7 weeks of no period I went to the doctor to discover that i was actually pregnant again!! (oops, the one thing they advise you against!!) But the dating of the pregnancy would have meant my period would have come 6 weeks later as well.
Everyones body reacts differently to mmiscarriage, periods are often different while your body gets itself back to normal. Just have faith in yourself and your body (not an easy thing to do after miscarriage)- you will know if something is not right. All the best with your healing, it is not easy, and is a pain that an unbelieveable number of women share
