very heavy af after erpc!

since i had a erpc on new years eve, my periods have been very heavy, the 1st day is usually fine but the 2nd and 3rd are so bad i have to wear a towel and tampon and have to change every hour. sorry for tmi, but when i go to the loo i lose loads of blood, i mean it pours away and i have clots. after 2 days of bleeding like this it goes back to what i would class as normal. is it worth going to my gp, could this be anything to do with the erpc, i havnt fell pregnant this year although i did twice last year, (mc at 7wks and mmc at 10wks) any advice would be gratefully received, thanks

You should definately go see your GP any heavy bleeding and clots should be checked out just in case - hope all goes ok

Its easy to say - don't panic - but Dont panic!!!
Theres no use getting yourself stressed out before you even know whats wrong - it could be nothing.
Hopefully a visit to the GP will put your mind at rest.

You must go and see your GP and demand to be sent to the hospital for an ultrasound to determine whether the ERPC was done properly. I had an ERPC after my second MC, and my first period, about a month afterwards, lasted for three weeks, with horrible gushes of blood that would flood my clothing (you can imagine what it was like going to work), and blood clots the size of walnuts. I called the hospital and was told that this was normal, and that unless the clots were the size of my fist, not to come in. My GP told me I had an infection and prescribed me antibiotics, so, in despair, because I knew this wasn't normal (my periods usually last three days and aren't very heavy, and my first period after my first, natural MC, was fine), I went to see a gynaecologist on Harley Street, who did an ultrasound. He said that so little had been removed as a result of the ERPC that they might as well not have bothered, and that I needed to have another one as soon as possible because I would not get pregnant again as the retained products of conception would just harden inside me (and would eventually get very difficult to remove). I was in such a state by this point, that I had the ERPC done privately (and that was a much better experience than on the NHS). My periods went back to normal immediately. You know your own body better than any doctor, so keep hassling your GP until you get the ultrasound. Best of luck and big hugs.

omg, ive left it 7 months, after the erpc i thought it would take a few months to get back to normal, ive only just realised somethings not right. now we have wasted even more time. im 39, i had a sterilisation reversal about 2 years ago, had a hsg last year and fell pregnant the month after i had that done. ttalloo thank you, what you say seems to make sense, the bleeding after the erpc was like a normal period, and i remember thinking im pleased i chose this route rather than a natural mc, but every month now puts me in mind of having a mc, if you know what i mean. i have an appointment to see my gp on the 13th (shes away on hols), should i just go see any available doc? we cant afford to go private. i am going to the clinic of the consultant who did my reversal tomorrow, (had my op private, but gp referred me to her nhs clinic) this is a follow up from last year, so i will mention it to her. should i have expected a follow up after my erpc? many thanks for your help.

I know what you mean about the period feeling like an MC; it just doesn't feel right, does it? I didn't have a follow-up after my ERPC (and I don't think that the NHS routinely offers them), which is why I fell into an awful limbo with the hospital not wanting to know that I had a problem, and my GP misdiagnosing it; the gynaecologist who did my second ERPC did an ultrasound while in theatre to make sure that he'd removed everything.

It's great that you have an appointment with the consultant who did your reversal tomorrow; maybe she has the facilities to do an ultrasound there and then to see what's going on? If she can't do an ultrasound or refer you, then I'd ask for an earlier appointment with any GP I could get - and don't take no for an answer. If you do need a second ERPC, and it's done properly, then you'll know from your first period, and there's no reason then why you can't start TTC immediately.

(BTW, don't worry about your age; when I was turning 35 and panicking about my fertility plummeting on my birthday, my gynaecologist said that one of the factors in why women over 35 are said to have more difficulty in conceiving, aside from the fact that we naturally have fewer eggs, etc., is that women of this age tend to have sex less often. So he said that as long as we had plenty of sex (at least every other day for a week on either side of my mid-cycle) our chances would be greatly improved.)
