MMC at 9 weeks - not sure what to do

Had a TV scan this morning after a tiny bit of dark red bleeding last night. I'd had some cramps which made me ask for a scan and just found out that it's a non-viable pregnancy - more-or-less empty sac. At the time I opted for a natural MC but now not sure what to do. What are your experiences?

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I've had three miscarriages - two ERPC for missed mc, and one natural. I opted for the ERPC as I didn't want to wait to mc, and wanted to just get it over with in terms of physical recovery. I was told with my first (diagnosed at 13 week routine scan, no embryo) that the longer after the mc you have sustained the sac etc, the longer it will prob take to fully mc

It just plain sucks. I'm sorry for your loss. Like CMOT, I've also had 3 mc's, all I let happen naturally which was fine because they happened fairly quickly and didn't drag out. In your case, it might take a while so maybe you'd want to speed it up. Also, I regret not doing the D&C because if you do that, they can test the tissue to see if it was a chromosomal problem. This would have given me more insight into what the problems could have stemmed from...

Thanks, starting to sway towards an erpc as i just want to get it over with now. What stage were you at Daynee?

I'v had 3 miscarriages and had ERPC, natural and medical management. My last miscarriage I decided to wait and let it happen naturally but as it was missed and had stopped growing over 2 weeks before I gave up after waiting another week and had the medical management. Think its very individual as to what is best for you - ERPC is quick and final but is a general anaesthetic, waiting means it can take a long time and this and medical management also mean you see everything coming out which for some people is very difficult. It can also be painful although I have been lucky. Please ask if there's any specific info I can help with to do with any of them. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I've had 2 mmc
I tried the natural route for the first at 9 weeks but ended up having an erpc as I bled too much
2nd time 10 weeks I opted for the erpc

Thanks so much for helping me with this. How long did it take you to recover (physically) after the ERPC? I must admit that my first thought when she told me, was that I didn't want a GA. I'm not sure I could cope with the medical management though - the thought of waiting around on the ward seems too sad and uncomfortable. I'm not sure I can wait for it to happen naturally. I think I've almost made up my mind. I know I probably shouldn't think like this but I'm just starting to think about when my cycles might recover so we can think about trying again.

I don't know how you manage having had multiple miscarriages - my heart goes out to you all xxx

I rested the day after my ERPC - this was mostly due to the effects of the GA
Otherwise I was fine afterwards

The first ERPC was done late in the day, and I was a bit fuzzy the next day. Second was done first thing, and I was fine the next day. No pain afterwards with either.

Much easier physically than the natural mc, and much more controlled emotionally

After my ERPC I was drowsy when I came home, went to my bed and woke up fine the next day. I do think it helped me because it was all over quickly and then it lets you try again, if thats what you want to do, which I did, as soon as possible. The medical management was much longer and drawn out - for me took pills on the Wed, hospital on the Friday and then I didnt actually pass the sac until the following Tuesday and then the bleeding went on much longer. Hope you come to a decision that you are happy with and it goes well.

Thanks everyone. Going to ring the unit today and see if I can go in asap for an erpc.

Really grateful for all your help. Will feel better once not 'pregnant' any more.

Just wanted to say thanks again to you all. It was def. the right thing to do for me in the end. Don't feel too sick and not too much bleeding. Can start trying to get back to normal now xx

It's good that they were able to fit you in today.

Take it easy, and be prepared for some ups and downs in how you feel
