Breastfeeding and Miscarriages

I posted an earlier thread about my recent missed miscarriage at 13 weeks.

I am still breastfeeding my DS who is 15 months and I just wondered if anyone else is still BF and has also miscarried ...

I guess I am just trying to see if there is a connection. I have only had one period whilst BF and we conceived straight after ... the doctor kind of implied that the egg may have been weaker because I may not have ovulated properly (I may have completely misconstrued what she said ...especially since I am not very medically minded). However, she did say that I should continue BF if I wanted to and that shouldn't impact a future pregnancy.

I'm a bit confused and wondered if anyone else had any experience?

So sorry to hear your sad news . I was also still BF'ing when I mc'd last year at 8 weeks, but was told that there was no connection. I stopped BF'ing immediately and conceived again the next cycle. I mc'd that one at 12 weeks, but for completely unrelated reasons.

Since that last mc, I have noticed that my periods have become more like how they were before ds was born. While I was BF'ing they were very light, and I had wondered myself as to whether everything 'down there' was working properly. My gut says it wasn't, but there is no medical opinion/advice that I've found to support this.

Saying that plenty of people get pg while BF'ing and go on to have straightforward pregnancies. I've heard that in some places people continue to BF the first child until the next one is born.

I know what I think happened with me, but in all likelihood it probably doesn't make a difference...

Forgot to say that when I had the first mc BF'ing ds gave me an enormous amount of comfort. I hope that you're getting the same feeling from feeding your little one

Yes, I am completely torn between giving up BF because I/we both love it so and wanting to get my body back in working order (as best as it can) so I can conceive with out worrying. I am 37 ... so the clock is also ticking.

Would you mind sharing why you mc at 12 weeks? obviously don't if you feel uncomfortable.

I was hoping my DS would miraculously self-wean whilst I was pregnant so I wouldn't have to make the decision to stop ... now it looks like I may decide to stop.
