I suffered a miscarriage at 13wks on 21st Jan, I then had a normal period 28days later. This month I had pregnancy symtoms and thought I was just being hopeful I did a 1st respense test 5days b4 my due period date, it came back positive and so did the 2nd. Five days later my period started and I confusingly did a test which came back so faint I could only see the line in the sunlight and almost thought I was just being hopeful again. It was the same make test and has drastically faded when it should have darkened. Do you think this is another miscarriage? It's the 3rd day of bleeding with worse cramps than my usual period but no way as servere as my last miscarriage but I was far gone. There are small tiny clots but kind of normal for a period. Any advice will be helpful. Do tests work when bleeding? Thanku x

Likklewicked It doesn't sound good does it. If the tests were all the same make and the same type (they usually come with a test level of 10mIU, 15mIU 20mIU and 25mIU depending how early they are supposed to work), also was your urine similar strength? The test should still work when you are bleeding as long as the urine isn't heavily blood stained. Try catching urine in a pot and leaving to stand till the blood settles to the bottom (at work we would centifuge it to separate the blood).

I really hope things work out well for you. I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks in February.

Hi Likklewicked sorry for your loss. I mc'd a week after you did at 10 wks. I'm not a medic, but what you are describing sounds like what is usually called a 'chemical pregnancy' (horrid medical vocab) which is where the egg is fertilised but fails to implant, causing pregnancy hormones for a short time (hence the +ve test) and then a heavier, crampier period with clots, because the lining of the womb has thickened. Apparently this is really common, it's just that before First Response came along we wouldn't have even realised we were pregnant. I have a very strong suspicion I had one the cycle before I conceived - but that was before I had my mc so I was not as aware of these things as I am now. Really sorry you are going through this... might be worth testing again in a couple of days / seeing GP to confirm? If I'm right I don't think it increases your risk of future mc.

Hi Liklewicked - so sorry to hear about your loss. I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks on 11 January. 5 weeks later felt signs of pregnancy and had not had a period so did a pregnancy test which showed up very faintly positive and then used a 1st response test which said I was 1-2 weeks pregnant. I finally began to feel more positive but went to an after-care appointment at the ante-natal clinic a few days later who re-did the check and told me I was not pregnant and that it must have been hormones left over from first pregnancy which also explained why I had not had a period. I was devastated as it felt like I had lost another baby. It has taken 81/2 weeks to get my period back and then I bled for approx. 10 days - still getting spots of blood now over 2 weeks after first start of period. Don't know when things are going to settle and am anxious to try again. I know though that it really helps to hear what other women have gone through. I hope everything goes well and that we both get pregnant again really soon. I'm 38 and am worried that time is running out!!

thank you for your advice everyone, I did another test yesterday as I stopped bleeding after 3days but it is negative. I spoke to the 1stresponse info line, she said it sounded like it hadnt inplanted. I feel confused still and my breasts feel tender and i feel waves of morning sickness. I hate hospitals and am avoiding it. DUring the bleeding I suffered sharp pains from the top of my legs to my sides, I have read low levels of hcg can mean eptopic pregnancy and these pains and worrying me.. Has anyone else had positive then negative results a week later and bled and still been pregnant? Or as my bf saids Am i clutchng at straws? xx

Can't help you much there Likklewicked. Perhaps the best thing would be to see the obstetrician at the hospital. I know you may not want to but if you are pregnant it may be best for baby to get everything checked. Best of luck!!

hi everyone my name is amy i just wont to ask if you have a internal scan why you are spottin can it make you you have a miscarriage if anyone can help please do

EldonAve · 25/03/2009 15:07

An internal scan won't make you miscarry

poker · 25/03/2009 15:13

are u sure because 3 weeks ago i was in early stages and started spottin and me and my b/f could see the heart beat i was only six weeks and 3 days and after they did the internal i started bleedin really bad

EldonAve · 25/03/2009 15:17

sorry to hear of your loss
internal scans are considered safe so most likely you would have mc anyway

EldonAve · 25/03/2009 15:20

info here

MrsHappy · 25/03/2009 15:22

Poker I don't believe that miscarriage is a risk of internal scans. See this link to the Miscarriage Association which says the same.

The thing to bear in mind is that you were already spotting when you had the scan. Unfortunately even after the heartbeat is seen at 6 weeks the miscarriage rate is still pretty high and if you were already spotting maybe there was something wrong and it just wasn't meant to be.

I'm sorry that this happened, it is awful.

poker · 25/03/2009 15:25

ok thank you got to go for scan on friday to see if it has all gone away not lookin forward to it i have been ok with it up until now i just feel like there is still something there i no its sounds silly

MrsHappy · 25/03/2009 15:27

It doesn't sound silly at all.
It's a horrid situation to be in, and I hope the scan goes ok.

dempsie · 26/03/2009 12:48

i had similar to you- after miscarraige had another positive test week or so later and then bleed. docs were not even sure if it had been another miscarraige , bit said it was unlikely.

its very upsetting- and mine wasnt even planned.
now all i think about is how old@baby@ would be etc.....

dempsie · 26/03/2009 12:49

that was meant to say 'baby'!!!

poker · 27/03/2009 08:48

i will find out today if my body has gone back to normal i wont a second baby some much people have been tellin me because i didnt bleed that much after i was off with in two days it could of been twins but they would of pick that up on the scan where they told my i have lost the baby
