So Confused. Is this a MC?

Hi all
I am so confused about what is happening. Am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant after what seemed like ages trying for number 2. I started bleeding a week ago (at first browny discharge, then red blood with some stringy bits and now mainly pinky browny stuff with stringy bits (are these clots?))
Sorry if TMI but I need to get a grip on what is going on. My GP is trying to get me an early scan but the hospital are not answering the phone (I have tried too!!!)
I bled with my first pregnancy allbeit without the stringy bits and everything was ok in the end but I cant help worry that something is going wrong. have had no cramps. thoughts???

Sorry you're going through this. Hope you manage to get hold of the hospital soon so you can get some answers.

If it helps, when I was in a similar situation the docs all said there was nothing I could do to help it either way. I could rest if it made me feel better, but if it was going to be a mc it would be a mc. They said if it was a mc it would be because of some abnormality making the foetus unviable.

So look after yourself, don't panic, don't blame yourself.

It's not very mumsnet to offer , but I will do in this instance.

sorry to hear what's happening to you - i know from all too much experience how miserable it is to be in this position, and can't imagine how much worse it must feel if it's taken you ages to conceive.
the frustrating truth is that nobody can answer your question question without being able to see what's happening inside - only a scan (or time) can give you the answers you need.
you will find plenty of stories on mumsnet about people who have had heavy bleeding in early pregnancy and gone on to have healthy pregnancies and babies. but it can also go the other way, sadly.
i don't want to worry you but i didn't really get cramps with any of my three miscarriages - they were all painless, and i was further along than you are, so that is not really an indicator either way, i don't think.
it's horrible not knowing what's happening and i know all you want now is some certainty, either way. keep pushing for that scan. i hope you get positive news. hugs.

Thanks so much for your replies. The hospital phoned a little while ago confirming a scan at 10.20 tomorrow morning. Hoping like mad to see a heartbeat then. Am beginning to think that I will be neurotic even if I do get good news. Its weird how attached you can get to a pregnancy at such an early stage. km - I dont know how you have coped with 3 x mcs. Hope it is all working out for you.
Will let you know how scvan goes but in the meantime, thanks so much for getting back to me!

not brilliantly, is the answer to how i have coped! did well for the first two, but really struggling with this latest one.
just re. the scan tomorrow, 6 weeks and 2 days is really early to see a heartbeat even if things are going well. some people do get to see a heartbeat at this stage, but many do not. i though it might help to mention this so you know what to expect. what they should be able to see if all is well is a nice gestational sac and a 'fetal pole' i think. i'm not a doctor but a veteran of more early scans than i'd like to have had to have! a lot depends on the size of the sac and the length of the pole and also the positioning. good luck for tomorrow

let us know how ur scan goes, im going through the same thing.
i had sharp pains 2 weeks ago so went for a u/s scan and showed i was 4-5 weeks so they booked me back in 2 weeks later to make sure all ok and see if the sac grows etc. went back this morning and the sac had grown from 6mm to 15mm in the 2 weeks which im guessing means im about 7 weeks but could only see an empty sac,the nurses didnt think it looked good and have booked me in again for another u/s scan in 8 days to see if any change but they said prepare for the worst. i am so worried and devastated and keep thinking maybe the foetus or heartbeat was just hiding this morning and couldnt be shown and everything may be ok because they have booked me in for another scan so there must be some hope. im only 20 and this is my first pregnancy, now i am so upset as my mind was set on this baby and so was my fiances. What are my chances and is it possible not to see the foetus or heartbeat at 7 weeks?

Good luck to you Fingers. Cam414 - you poor thing having to go through this. It sounds as if you are a bit unsure of your dates so it could be that you are earlier on than you thought and that is why they cant see anything. However, I assume you must be 6 weeks at the least and therefore they would be expecting to see something in the sac then even if not a heartbeat. I have been in this situation and found that the staff have been very good and when they have said it doesnt look good sadly they have been right. Hoping you have support and can try and cope with the worry until your next scan.

thank you springflower its just horrible not knowing and these 8 days will go so slow. im holding on to the hope that theyve booked me back in so there must be some kind of chance or they would of just said yesterday. il keep u updated, its helpful talking about it to other people who can relate. thanks x

I went for my scan this morning and things are better than I expected. I saw a heartbeat which was great so right now, the midwife said things are as good as they can be. I am officially 6w4d but the scan shows slightly less. The scan also showed a cyst on my right ovary (not sure what to make of that as she kept asking me whether I had experienced any pain but then went on to say that it can be normal in pregnancy!)
The only thing that has taken the edge off the scan is the puddle of bright red blood that I found when I got home in my underwear. (sorry if TMI but I am getting immune to such detail!) There were 2 clots in it which just started me off again with a bit of panic!
Cam414 - my thoughts are with you. For what it is worth, I have a couple of friends who didnt see the heartbeat until 8 weeks. I also didnt get a visible heartbeat in my first pregnancy until the end of 7 weeks but at 6 weeks there was a fetal pole and yolk sack. Try to remain positive but also remember that if it doesnt work out that you are young and have time on your side. (wont be much help right now but somehting to cling on to). let us know how you get on. I will of course continue to update and am continuing to hope that the blood wasnt anything too sinister.
KM - So sorry about your experiences. Hope that Docs are taking you seriously and are prepared to look into why it is happening now that you have had 3 mcs. Are you RH neg? A friend of mine who had 3 did loads of research and self diagnosed a blood sugar problem. Once that was under control, she went on to have 2 babies in 2 1/2 years and no more MCs. Sometimes it pays to look into it yourslef? Regardless, i really feel for you and hope it works out.

Cam414 - you poor thing - the waiting is awful. I'm preg at the minute - with 2 previous miscarriages. I'm waiting for my scan on 17th to make usre everything is OK - and its killing me!

thanks fingerscrossed, hopefully im only around 6 weeks and thats why theres no heartbeat but there wasnt even a fetal pole so its probably bad. xx
