How early can you detect a heartbeat at a scan?

Have previously had a mmc so I have a scan booked for 7 weeks Monday week. Would it be best to wait until I am 8 weeks pg? TIA

I think at 7 weeks they should be able to see a heartbeat - definately by a vaginal scan if not through an ordinary ultrasound. I know somebody who had a scan for similar reasons to yourself at 7 weeks + and was able to see a normally progressing pregnancy.
You probably would see more at 8 weeks - but can you bear to wait that long? Good Luck!

i saw one at 6+1 but that is early

at 7 weeks i would think you should see a hb,

good luck

I had a scan at 6+5 as I had some spotting and there was a bean with a hb then, so 7+1 should be fine.

Hope it goes well for you :-)

I had scan at 7 weeks and saw the hb very clearly.

Thanks nikki. The consensus seems to be that by 7 weeks you should definitely see the scan but one girl said she couldn't at 7 weeks but did at 8 weeks so thinking of going for 8 weeks.
