Using OPK for TTC after MC - any experiences?

Hi

I am new on here. Have been following various threads since finding out about mmc at 10 weeks on 26th Jan, my first pregnancy. Completely devastated and very scared about the future.

I am impressed by how supportive this online community is and also at how those of you who have been through this - many times for some - are coping with the heartache and still staying positive.

Can anyone help with the following? I am keen to start ttc again straight away, but obviously its harder to predict fertile period after mc and I'm still bleeding 10 days later. I should just be patient but I know some women have ovulated very soon and even conceived, so am also worried I'll miss it!

Has anyone tried using an OPK in the weeks after an mc? Do I need to take a pg test first to check that the HCG is gone from my system? And could the hormones left over form pregnancy/mc interfere with the OPK and give me a false result? Have no experience of these things at all (last conception was first time lucky) so any advice welcome.

Perhaps what I should do is just relax and try to focus on other things, but easier than done.

Thanks and hope you don't mind me joining

I tried opks after my mmc, and didn't realise that they also show positive with HCG. OPKs were pink for seemingly ages (I only started testing around normal ov time), but then again so were the hcgs I tested too. To this day I don't know if I actually did ovulate, but I suspect from other signs that I did, pretty much exactly 14 days after my erpc - which is odd in itself since I normally ovulate later in my cycle - this month it was day 19 or 20. I had literally only just finished bleeding. If this is the case, then I ov'd whilst the hcg tests were still faintly positive. I didn't manage to conceive tho . Think I missed it, being too scared in case the bleeding hadn't stopped.

I used them after a mc in July. I was desperate to TTC straight away. I had an EPRC so suspect that my HCG levels went down quickly and I got postive OPKs about 14 or so days afterwards. I didn't conceive that month but did the month after, again using OPKs. i bought a big pack from Ebay and basically tested everyday from day 7 I think. I Ov'd later that month on about day 18 if I remember. Am still pg with that one so there is hope for you. I had 3 mc in the 18 months prior to getting pg so it was something of an obsession for me.
If you don't get pg straight away, its no bad thing as you can monitor your cycle a little better once you've had a visit from AF. Good luck.

Banjaxed and LadyHelen, just wanted to say a quick thanks for your kind replies...
Have bought the OPK but not sure if I will give in and use it this month.. might be best to just start ttc after bleeding stops just in case, but not get my hopes up, then can start monitoring ov from next month. Btw I my mmc was medically managed, not sure but maybe that means HCG levels go down slower?
Sorry for both your losses but congrats to you LadyHelen on current pg - I like to hear after mc success stories, they do give me hope!

I don't know about hormones and medical management vs erpc. As I said, I had an erpc and had positive hpts for ages abou 3 weeks I think), but I did have very sensitive ones (10ul), and my period came on time.

Good luck ttc again, I hope you have ladyhelen's luck and not mine
