brown spotting

I found out I was pregnant on Christmas eve - an unexpected third baby but thrilled.
I went for an early scan on 2.1.09 as unsure of dates. Only sac could be seen but no heartbeat. Lovely nurse told me not to write it off yet, but couldn't help being worried. Had some brown spotting yesterday also, but very slight.
I had a miscarriage 11 years ago and am terrified of it happening again. I have an appointment with the early pregnancy unit this Thursday, but don't think my nerves can take it!!!!!!!!!! Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Hi Hamish - I've been in a situation where one time brown spotting led to a miscarriage, then a second time it led to lots more bleeding and somehow my babe pulled through and is now a rioting 4 year old. It is awful I know, such a worry but things can work out and I really hope they do. I know that waiting till Thursday will be hard, hang in there.

How's it going Hamish? has the spotting slowed down? thinking of you.

scardypants · 04/01/2009 21:04

I'm in almost the very same situation and I'm really scared too. I found out on boxing day and on the following Tuesday I had brown spotting. I had two different type of scans and they showed nothing so I'm also booked in to the EPU next Thursday or Friday (they still haven't rang with a confirmed time!)

They told me brown spotting was not too bad as it indicated old blood which meant it could have been residual from implantation. Are you having any pain? How far along do you think you are?

I had brown spotting for TEN WEEKS in my last pregnancy. As I had previously miscarried, this did my head in. But the pregnancy was fine and dd born safe and well.

Really hope it works out for you, hamish, and for you too scardypants.

Thanks Hester

That must have been scary, lovely to hear(read) such a happy outcome.

I hope you're doing ok Hamish.

thanks a lot for your support - no spotting yesterday but it's just started again. Trying to stay positive although am sure the outlook isn't great, but did start feeling sick today which would tie in with my dates so who knows! My head is melted

hamish thinking of you. the waiting is absolutely the worst bit. in my first miscarriage pale pinkish bleeding was the first sign. a close friend had brownish spotting and then actually a whole lot of bleeding and had abs given up hope but at the eight week scan despite all her bleeding there was a healthy heartbeat. she is now 16 weeks gone and still gets some bleeding. good luck
x

Hi hamish12 I went to see doctor this morning he booked me for a scan on wednesday at 12.20, I will let you know how I get on and you keep us update on yours on thursday. Goodluck xxx

hamish12 · 08/01/2009 20:13

so I had a scan this afternoon and saw a little heartbeat. Thrilled, but anxious as spotting continues. What are the odds of a miscarriage after a good scan at six weeks?

So pleased for you hamish. Apparently chances of pregnancy continuing succesfully after hb seen at 6 weeks is 90%,hope that helps.

Fozzie78 · 09/01/2009 12:02

Ahhhhhhh hamish12 that is great news congratulations. xxx

I'm new to this site, I have just experienced a miscarriage on new years eve I was 6.5 weeks, started with brown spotting a couple of days before, then no hearbeat found on scan. I have PCOS so I have read I have a higher chance of miscarriage. I am going to start Clomid on my next cycle to help regulate things and I hope I will be pregnant again very soon. Good luck to all xxx

Hi, I am also new to this site and have never gone on a chat site before but I have no one to speak to and am unable to think of anything else. I thought i was 7 weeks but had a scan yesterday and was told to come back in 2 weeks because it was smaller, about 6 weeks. The consultant was not very reassuring even when i said my dates may be a little hazy. Then today i started to get slightly worse cramps (although nowhere near unbearable) and when i went to the loo there was a little pink/brown trace on the paper. I called my doctor and am having another HGC (?) tomorrow. My previous one was 2400 and so it should be much higher now. I am 36 and this is my first. My father died a dew months ago and I am not sure i can deal with losing this pregnancy. If it is usual to have cramping and bleeding and a small foetus then why are the doctors not telling me that? Panicked.....

veryworriedme · 14/01/2009 20:55

i forgot to say that there was a heartbeat yesterday

Lol2 · 19/01/2009 12:33

Hi veryworriedme, I hope all was ok with you after your visit to the doctors? I think that you can bleed in early pregnancy and go on to have a healthy baby. I seen my baby's heatbeat at 6 weeks, then had mild cramps and spotted a few days later and my doctor told me to go in straight away to have another scan. I am 35 and this would have been my first, I hope all works out fine for you.
