anyone else told to wait for two periods after a D+C before trying again?

i thought most doctors just advised waiting for one period?
I'm sure the advice was not specific to our case as the gynae was saying the same to everyone else on my ward who'd just had a D+C.
At the time I wasn't in a state to ask any questions and was always planning to follow the advice but now i work it out that means we're unlikely to be trying again until mid February. it seems a really, really long wait. on the other hand don't want to do anything that might reduce chances of a successful pregnancy next time. we've had two m/cs and im not keen on another. thoughts, anyone?

DOn't know, but bumping for you.

i was told i could try straight away, however advised to wait for two cycles to be sure of dates etc...also your insides might be a little fragile after d+c

christmasBarbielovesSanta · 04/12/2008 20:30

my first period was really a period, more spotting than anything so its cd76 for me and still only brown spotting, i guess they just want to make sure you are back to normal so to speak x

christmasBarbielovesSanta · 04/12/2008 20:30

wasnt really a period

ladylush · 04/12/2008 20:33

I've just had one but will be ttc again as soon as bleeding stops

cmotdibbler · 04/12/2008 20:38

My recurrent miscarriage consultant said that unless you had had an infection/complicated mc, there was no need to wait at all - and there is no evidence that it makes any difference.

Which was a good thing as I got pg straight after my third miscarriage and ERPC - that pg is now 2.6

I've waited 3 times and it made no difference. Time isn't on my side any more.

pecanpie · 04/12/2008 20:49

My consultant told me after a d&c 4 weeks ago that there's no reason at all to wait, just to get life back to normal asap. He didn't say anything about it meaning an increased chance of a mc.

Sabs1981 · 04/12/2008 20:55

silvermum sorry to hear about your mc. I had a medical management (not ERPC) in September and I was also told to wait 3 months. The waiting is really difficult, but like *christiana said, it does take time to recover not just emotionally, but physically too.

silvermum · 04/12/2008 21:17

hmm, not sure what to think as there's a real range of views here! it seems strange that consultants are offering such differing advice.

my consultant told me we could try again as soon as we felt ready.

we waited till i had one cycle, however, more for emotional reasons - i had a period about 8 weeks after the ERPC and then conceived after that period.

silvermum · 04/12/2008 21:41

ooh i just don't have a gut instinct on it yet - i was thinking that maybe by the new year i might have developed one! so i'd probably advise a friend to see how they feel in the new year! def don't want christmas to be overshadowed by worrying about whole saga!

I asked and was told there was no need to wait

sayithowitis · 06/12/2008 23:05

I had 3 m/c and apart from the second ( when I m/c one of the twins but 'held on to' the other and had a successful birth) I was told to try asap because one of the reasons for my m/c was that my body didn't get into gear with the various new hormones etc until after I had lost the pregnancy! We tried almost straight away after m/c 1 and 3 and though I lost one of my twins ( due to a traumatic event in our lives )each time I carried the next one successfully to term. My DS are now 20 and 17.

Jackstini · 06/12/2008 23:07

I was told 1 cycle but caught the one after. Unfortunately mc again but no D&C needed.
Then waited 2 cycles and caught 2 months after - am due next week
