TTC after miscarriage - how soon?

Had missed mc confirmed by scan last week (I was 9wks but baby had died at 8wks). Decided to let nature take its course and have been bleeding heavily for a couple of days. Have another scan to check all has come away next Monday.

At the moment, both DP and I feel we'd like to start TTC again as soon as we can. Nurse at the EPAU told us waiting till I've had a normal period would help with dating but I understand there's no other medical reason for that? So how soon could we start? As soon as the bleeding stops? Or should we wait till I've had a negative pg test for hormone levels?

And is it true that fertility can often be higher just after a mc?

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage.

Unless their are complications (e.g. infection, not all come away etc) there doesn't seem to be any reason not to start TTC immediately. However, if I were you I would continue to test every week or couple of days until you get a negative pregnancy test. Otherwise you may find yourself in the position where you get a positive, assume you are pregnant, and then think you are having another miscarriage, when in fact you are only having your normal af.

i was advised to wait one period for dating purposes, the hospital also gave me a pg test to test after 3 weeks, and that was negative. I think it's just down to how you feel, if you feel ready then go for it.

You can start TTC as soon as the bleeding stops. Its a good idea to do a test after 3 weeks or so to check that your levels of HCG are normal.

I got pg straight after my 3rd mc, and the consultant said that it was as good a time as ever.

Thanks all - I will get hold of some pg tests so I can check as you advise. Any idea how long, roughly, it takes to get a negative post-mc?
