How long does it take to stop feeling pregnant after an ERPC?

I had a scan recently which showed no heartbeat (approx 8 weeks' pregnant) and am due for an ERPC next week.
I'm still getting a lot of pregnancy symptoms (sore boobs, everything tastes strange and nausea). I'm finding all the pregnancy symptoms quite distressing as they are a constant reminder of my situation.
Will the symptoms go away quite quickly after the ERPC or will they hang around for weeks?

Sorry to hear you are going through this

I can't really speak from experience as my MC started naturally, but I do know that the day before it all happened what few symptoms I had subsided - my boobs definitely stopped feeling tender and DP's cigarette smoke stopped bothering me. So, symptoms stopped pretty much as soon as the bleeding started and a test 48 hours later indicated there was almost no pregnancy hormone left

I would guess that getting your hormone levels checked is the best way of confirming what is happening.

Hi scarymaclary, sorry you're going through this. My symptoms went quite quickly after an ERPC, the only lasting symptom was feeling very tired, but that could have be down to feeling a bit depressed aswell. My symptoms lingered on a little longer after I miscarried naturally, so hopefully they will disappear quickly for you. Take care xx

yes mine went straight away after the erpc. hated that wait for the procedure, still feeling sick.

Hi scarymaclary, so sorry to hear your sad news . It's just awful when this happens.

I was feeling very similar to you when we found out our baby no longer had a heartbeat - I even threw up before we left for the scan. Symptoms continued until I had the ERPC a week later, and then when I woke up after the procedure all my symptoms had gone. My gynae told me that it's the placenta that secretes the HCG, so for as long as it's there it'll continue to make you feel pg. I hope for you that the same thing happens and that you feel much better physically after the ERPC.

You take care of yourself x

I had an ERPC today and I still feel pregnant My breasts are still tingly and tender.

Thanks for the replies. I had my ERPC yesterday. The procedure itself wasn't as bad as I'd expected, but I definitely still have my pregnancy symptoms. Here's hoping they diappear in the next few days.

I had an ERPC 13 days ago and did a pregnancy test this morning which showed up positive. Is this normal or should i be worrying? I feel like i should wait for a negative test before i start ttc again.

I was told that a pregnancy test can be positive for weeks after an ERPC. Also, I was told that you're not supposed to have sex for 2 weeks after the procedure.
You can then start TTC whenever you feel ready, but if you wait until you've had a period, it's easier to date the pregnancy. Hope that helps.

I guess you can't get pregnant though if hpt test shows positive after a D+C. I am still getting a positive hpt 2 weeks post op.

Hi guys sorry for you losses, i had a m/c over 5 weeks ago, and still testing positive. So it can take some time for the hormones to leave your body.

ladylush · 12/12/2008 18:44

I'm just wondering how you know whether you need further intervention.
