Is this normal?

I had a mmc just over a week ago. I noticed slight spotting on the Saturday night which didn't get any heavier the next day but because I am neurotic I phoned around to find somewhere to get a scan to check everything on the Sunday. I had the unpleasant experience (although consultant was really lovely) of seeing my baby with no heartbeat. It had died at 9 weeks, a week earlier.

The consultant organised a D&C the following afternoon (Monday) and I only bled for a couple of days, with only light spotting by Thursday.

Yesterday (Monday), a week after the D&C, I noticed I had been bleeding but it was brown. Then nothing until this afternoon (Tuesday) when again I started to bleed but it's now looking like it might be a bit red. It's not like it would be if I had a period though.

Is this normal? I thought a D&C completely cleaned everything out.

I am so frustrated because I thought the bleeding had stopped and I can't imagine some state of normality until I stop bleeding and get past the hurdle of having my first period (then I guess it will be back to wondering when and if I will get pregnant again).

first of all I'm so sorry for your loss -its horrible finding out this way (no m/c is nice but I think there is something v. horrid about seeing it up on screen like that).

yes - some bleeding/sptting off and on is normal - think it went on for a couple of weeks after I had a d&C (and good call to do that - I didnt' on my first -ended up needed it weeks later and it dragged the whole thing on much longer).

it did seem to delay my period a bit (I got pregnant again without having a proper one so was all a bit confusing wondering what was going on with my body) - FWIW I'd take it easy, take lots of vitamins to get ready to try again

Am already on some good quality vitamins in preparation although I have had a complete junk food fest over the past week to try to make me feel better (and having no kitchen at the time gave me extra justification ) so need to get past that....

I just hope I have an easy second attempt...

for the first 3 days, I didn't want to eat anything - now I'm clearing supermarket shelves of chocolate !

have given myself till Monday for the diet to start. Back to the gym possibly tonight, but more likely Saturday Will be back on the preconception vits then and gearing up for a BFP before Christmas

jools/pecanpie - good for you re junkfest, can I also recommend the medicinal quailties of red wine and chocolate?

ps make sure there is loads of zinc in whatever vitamins you're taking - I was deficient when tested after 2 mmcs.. upped the zinc/manganese and that seemed to work

i used to love a good drink but I don't seem to be able to enjoy it beyond a glass because I'd rather be in the position where I shouldn't be drinking... Hmmm, maybe I should give it a go again tonight .

Thanks for the advice re: zinc - I'll check when I get home from work. Am a bit worried that maybe my iron levels have been really low. I'm coeliac (gluten intolerant which affects absorption of nutrients, particularly iron) and although I've not intentionally eaten anything I shouldn't have, I'm really worried that I've been a bit too laid back recently...

Jools - what does BFP mean? I just don't understand any of these shortcuts!

I know exactly what you mean re drink - I'd rather have not been plus I was in shock for a while after finding out so made me feel sick.

Iron is a good point -fluradex (not sure how you spell it) is very good for topping up plus perfectly safe to take if you fall pregnant.
