High Vaginal swab for infections in pregnancy?

Hi - I am trying to ger pregnant and really worried cos in the past have had chlamydia, mycoplasma and also heavy colonisation of strep B. Have seen a dr in Russia who says my chances of miscarrying are v high. Also spoke to someone in the US who said that overcolonisation of Strep B can cause late miscarriage and that some trials have been done on giving antibs even if you don't have it in your urine. Has anyone heard this?

Does anyone know if there is a hospital / consultant who specialises in this kind of stuff and will monitor for STDs and strep B or how I could find one?

You can get strep B tests privately for £35 but not till late in pregnancy because it comes and goes and it is only when the baby is being born that they generally come into contact with infection.

In general if the infection has been treated there is no risk unless you are still infected. However in the case of chlamydia there can be structural damage to the reproductive system which can make it harder to get pregnant. Specifically why does your doctor think miscarriage is more likely. Sounds a bit dubious to me.

Hi - thanks, I had it done at TDL so I guess I could go back there when its time. My dr in Russia didn't say why he just said as I had had recurrent cystitis, strep B, chlamydia & mycoplasma I would have problems keeping a baby. Now I'm terrified to try and get pregnant and wanted to see if anyone had heard of a good consultant that would monitor this kind of thing and not just tell me not to worry!

Where abouts is the country are you? Just general, not specific ie Nort West, London, Midlands?
