Anyone else been told they should wait 3 months before TTC after medical management?

I've just noticed on the written advice the hospital have given me that I shoudl wait 3 months before TTC to let one of the drugs out of my system after having medical management. But when I had the same procedure 3 years ago no-one mentioned this and so I'm wondering if they are now just being super cautious or whether I should really listen to what they are saying.

I'd be completely gutted if I had to wait 3 months as I'm 39 and feel my time is running out.

What drugs did you have?

The leaflet says that I should wait 3 normal periods to ensure that all of the effects of the mifepristone medication has left my body.

I haven't ever taken that drug. I know that with some drugs used to terminate pregnancy (e.g. methotrexate) the advice to wait exists because of the risk of birth defects, but my very quick Googling has revealed nothing similar about the drug you ahve taken.
Sometimes I begin to think that the advice tends to be on the cautious side unnecessarily and "wait 3 months" seems IMO to be handed out as advice regardless of how/why your pregnancy was ended.

Can you get a second opinion? Will there be any follow up at which you can ask?

I had medical management and wasnt given any information about waiting to try and conceive. I did have to sign consent forms though and I probably didnt read them very well so not 100% sure. Will try and look into it.

Thanks for your responses. I rang up the Miscarriage Association who said that there was no need to wait. I think maybe the hospital is being ultra cautious.

As you have worked out, I think so too. I had medical and surgical (and then medical again) management for mmc in April and got told one, two, and three months by diff medical professionals but my (lovely) GP and the MIsc Assoc all said try when you're ready - and I concieved in May after first period, am now 22 weeks...(still anxious mind!)

neolara I had a miscarriage a month ago and had medical management, and medics told me to wait 3 months ( 3 periods) too, for the same reason, to give time for the medication to get out of my system and if I was to get pregnant earlier than that, it may effect the baby. I havent even had my first period yet, so the waiting is killing me...

Sabs, I just noticed your other thread and was about to try to link to this one for you.

Your post put me into a bit of a panic because you are the first other person (or source) I have heard of who has said they have also been told to wait 3 months. When I saw your post I did another quick google search and can find no other guidance sayign to wait 3 months. However, I have found a few which say that you can get pregnant immediately.

TBH, I'm not going to wait 3 months but I think I might be a bit gun-ho about it because I wasn't given this advice when I had the medical management last time, and that was at the same hospital. Also, I'm pretty ancient. If I felt I had more time on my side I might be more inclined to follow the 3 month advice.

I dont really want to wait 3 months either, but ive booked to go away abroad at the end of the year, so going to wait until I get back, to minimise any risks from travelling
