Looking for experiences after two miscarriages and hope for trying again

Hoping to hear some shared experiences from people who have gone through this or similar.

i have just found out that I have miscarried for the second time, and I am just so scared about what this means for us moving forward.

my husband and I had been trying for 11 months when we first got pregnant in November 2025. Unfortunately, we lost the baby at around 6 weeks and by the seems of things it was never able to develop a heart beat. We also had a sub chorionic bleed and chorionic bump which probably points to chromosome issues. It was a missed miscarriage so by the time everything was done and I had stopped bleeding it was the middle of February.

we got pregnant the second time pretty quickly after in May, and had a scan at 7w 3d which showed a heart beat, but at our next scan at 11 weeks it showed the pregnancy stopped developing at 8ish weeks.

it’s so hard not to think that this is never going to work out for us right now, or to get over the fear of how long we will be waiting before we get there again.

we are in Northern Ireland too and they only do testing after 3 or when you are a bit older, but I am 30 so fall outside of that.

any stories or good news people could share?

I have had three missed miscarriages in total. Before that I had one child without issue. I got pregnant again in May and so far, things are ok.

I am in Northern Ireland too and I did ask for investigation as I was 35+ but was rejected until my third MC, so I went private through Kingsbridge to a recurrent miscarriage specialist called Dr Hunter. He is excellent and has his own clinic which is a little cheaper than KB. He ran full checks on me and prescribed me progesterone, aspirin and enoxaparin injections once pregnant. I would highly recommend him - obviously it is early days for me still but I really feel glad I went to him. Best of luck x

This is definitely something we would like to do - it just seems to cruel to have to do this three times and the time in between that it takes to get back to normal and actually even have a shot at trying again. If you don’t mind me asking, how much was the testing? And did you go to them directly or did you get a referral to him for the hospital? So sorry to read about your losses. It’s so tough and heartbreaking. My first two pregnancies ended in miscarriages at 7 weeks and 11 weeks. I got pregnant again quickly and went on to have four healthy babies, two boys and two girls. Wishing you all the strength in the world.

Hi @Justagirlttcsure no problem, I’ll give you as much info as I can.

i honestly can’t remember if I needed a GP referral for him or not, I did get one but I think this was because I wanted to try to cover it via Bupa but I paid upfront regardless. My initial appointment was a consultation with him where he took all my history, details of MC etc. he then sent me for a full fertility blood panel to be taken (lots of bloods) which was the same appointment. This cost in total £720 - majority of this was the cost of the bloods, the consultation with him itself was maybe around £300.

I went to him in Kingsbridge because I didn’t know there was an alternative, but we works out of a private clinic on the Malone Road called Optifema where the pricing is cheaper because you’re not paying a Kingsbridge supplement. I would expect if you’re interested that everything could be done in Optifema.

The results take a week and I had a follow up consultation with him where he set out a plan for if I become pregnant including a prescription ready to go for what I needed should I have a positive test. If no positive test within 6 months, to come back to him.

My experience from them was very empathetic, professional and happy to tell you what was worth the money and what wasn’t so it’s clear the priority with them is to diagnose and treat rather than to make money.

He advised to take vitD, coq10, omega 3 and folic acid. I used methylfolate in this pregnancy rather than folic acid after my own research and he was happy with that. I also take a female probiotic (obtibac) which I find very useful and that was a recommendation from the Royal EPU.

I am glad I pursued this, as I said previously I am older than you so I’m conscious time wasn’t on my side. What was particularly disappointing was after my third MC, when I had a conversation with my NHS consultant about a referral for recurrent pregnancy loss clinic, she said I could have availed of this after loss 2 because I was 35+. Nobody ever offered that to me and I specifically asked my GP also. I was also told that the wait time was 8-12 months.
Furthermore, I held onto the hope that I might get answers from the chromosomal testing that I availed of in MC3 post d&c and it came back inconclusive after four months. So I’m personally glad I pursued this privately to I suppose regain some control over an uncontrollable situation I guess.

its so disappointing to hear that about the nhs but I’m unfortunately not even a bit surprised. The fact you were left so long waiting for answers too is just salt on the wound really.

its also great to hear they are open and honest about what is and isn’t worth it. We had testing done after about 9 months of trying with an ivf clinic and to be honest I got the sense off the bat they were pushing for the most extreme option. Just puts everything they are telling you into question.

Sorry you're going through this.

I had one child with absolutely no complications.
Then four miscarriages, between 11-8 weeks.

Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic proscribed progesterone after third MC, resulting in 4th MC.

After this they gave me levothyroxine for suspected mild hypothyroidism
And I ended up with a beautiful boy several months later.

i am so sorry to hear this but I am glad you got your rainbow baby.

I actually had a test done in 2024 and I had high TPO antibodies but thyroid function was fine at the time. I think this is something I need to bring up when I see them because I did read that it can bring on thyroid issues when pregnant due to the strain on the system.

Yes there is one hormone (TSH) that creates some feedback loop about sufficient hormone production, with the sole function of that hormone (T4 maybe?) being supporting a pregnancy.
If the system isn't working there are no signs because pregnancy is it's only function.

Just sad you have to have so many MCs before they consider it.

One miscarriage at 7 weeks, one shortly after my 12 week scan where I was told it would happen. About 10 years later I met my husband and am sitting here with my two lovely daughters. Its shit at the time but there is always hope.

I am so sorry xx no positive stories as of yet, but I could have written this post myself, exactly the same situation. We have not started trying again as I am also very nervous.

Yeah when I asked the doctor about testing during pregnancy for pregnancy specific changes she basically told me they don’t really do that - it just seems so strange to me as it’s surely a straight forward enough process and if it even made 5% of a difference to the number of hours overall losses it would surely be worth it.

Awk I hate to hear that - seems like we are sisters in misery at the moment! It is scary to think about going again, and so aware that it will just be an anxiety riddled time when it does. Part of me just feels so ready to do it again because at least it’s progress but it is just gut wrenching. I went for medical management the first time but because it took so long for the heavy bleeding to stop I am going for surgery tomorrow now. Here to talk privately if you want someone to share more with 💕 I find it really hard to talk to people who haven’t experienced it - so much they don’t really know or understand about it which you have to explain and they can be unintentionally hurtful
