Positive pregnancy test after miscarriage

I had a medically induced miscarriage on Thursday 19th February. I’m still bleeding, some of it being brownish in colour, then bright red, then pinkish and it just goes in a cycle. I know I probably still need to wait to test. But how soon after a miscarriage do you get a negative test? I’m worried not all the pregnancy has passed and I’ve still got something inside my uterus.

Hi, so sorry for your loss and I hope you’re taking the time to look after yourself.
I am also going through a miscarriage which began on 7th of February, as of today I’m still getting a very faint line. I was told 3-4 weeks and I should have a negative test. I’m due to retest on the 10th of March. I’d definitely get some advice from the hospital regarding this as they should have advised your properly about testing.
Take Care xx

I'm sorry you're going through this. I had medical management of miscarriage and it took 4 weeks of bleeding on and off to pass everything. The test was still positive after a few weeks but after 6 weeks it was negative. It may be too early for a negative test, how long were you advised to wait until testing? If you keep bleeding heavily then seek help from the hospital, they should be able to answer whether your bleeding is normal, don't let them fob you off though if you feel something isn't right.

probably a bit TMI but I’m still getting like lumps of stringy tissue come out as well. I’ve had a miscarriage before but it happened naturally and I swear it was over quicker than this. That or I was so traumatised that I just forgot it all cause I drunk quite heavily and become rather depressed after my first miscarriage which was also my first pregnancy so I was a complete mess. I think they told me to test 3 weeks after… I’d have to ask my husband cause I have a terrible memory and don’t really remember what was said in the appointment🫣

Thank you! Honestly I hate standing up for myself, I also have very bad health anxiety after being in hospital for nearly a month so I feel like I become worked up rather easily when it comes to my health. Even more so since I’ve had kids cause I’m so paranoid about dying and leaving them without a mum🫣

Yeah, stringy tissue and clots can all be pretty normal, but honestly, do give the hospital a call if you do get worried about the bleeding.
3 weeks sounds about right and I could still be positive at that point, but again give them a call and make sure you get looked after.
I can completely understand the feeling, it’s so nice to process, and it’s really hard to deal with. I’ve actually looked into some support groups this time, because I’ve struggled quite badly.
Make sure you put yourself first xx

Honestly you have to speak up or if you have a partner get them to do it! My husband had to push for me to be seen as I'd been bleeding heavily on and off for 4 weeks. I had retained tissue and had lost so much blood that I needed an iron infusion. Sometimes you do need some help. I would have been in much worse shape without the hospital involvement that time. I've always found the care after miscarriages at my hospital to be amazing but they definitely had a tendency to fob me off on the phone as I rang multiple times about the heavy bleeding.

I had surgical management of a miscarriage on 2nd Jan & was still testing positive three weeks later. My EPU did bloods every couple of days to track my HCG decline and rule out any need for second surgery.

I'm sorry for your loss & I hope you're EPU is as helpful

I’m three weeks post medication on Thursday and it’s still quite obviously positive. I’m debating whether I need to ring EPU and get a check up.

I would definitely give them a call and ask for a blood test to confirm your HCG levels. My GP also did one once I was discharged too so maybe try them.

Is there a potential it could be a new pregnancy?

God no😂😂 we’ve not been intimate at all, I’ve not long actually stopped bleeding/discharging either🫣

@mummypeach2224bless you, I'm sorry to have asked.

I hope you get some support from the EPU or your GP with the HCG blood tests

Don’t be silly! It’s okay, one of my friends thought it was a new pregnancy and I was like ahahha no same one, not a new one😂🫣

thank you! I legit dreamed about getting the EPU little contact slip in an envelope through my post last night. Was such a random dream😂

Hello! I had a miscarriage (spontaneous start) with a MVA on 10th Feb.

I'm still testing positive, even though I've just had my period. EPU said to ring up 3 weeks after the procedure, which I did and then asked me to test again 4 days later to see if it's getting fainter (it was). It's now 4 weeks after and vvfl, so rang today and they recommended testing again Friday but they'd expect it to be negative considering I had a period.

All that being said, ring your local EPU. You should be able to find a number online and they give advice even without knowing any details about me (they've never asked for a name!)
