Retained product following MMC

Reassurance needed… Today I had a scan and received the news that I have 2.5cm vascular retained product following my MVA for a missed miscarriage nearly three weeks ago - the dr was keen for me to do 10 days of provera (progesterone) then stop which will induce a bleed and hopefully expel the retained tissue. I then have a follow up scan and if it is still there I will be a hysteroscopy. Has anyone else had this experience? If so did the meds work and did you cycle return?
I'm so worried that my cycle will never return or my womb is damaged somehow now and my fertility doomed, I could really do with some reassurance.

I've had RPOC twice. Well, first time I was testing positive and had a scan to confirm. I chose to let it come out on its own. It did during my second period (your cycle does return!). With my 2nd MC, I again tested positive for weeks. I didn't bother with a scan as I knew it would be because of RPOC, so I chose to wait it out again. Again, I tested negative after my second period. So in my experience, our bodies are wonderful and do get rid of everything naturally, it just depends if you want to wait or move on quicker. I didn't have any trouble falling pregnant after RPOC - it doesn't cause any damage. I am currently pregnant again now!
Good luckđŸ™‚

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers
I had medical management for TFMR, but kept bleeding on and off for 3mths. It was my first pregnancy and I was never told how long the bleeding would last, plus, they never said to do a repeat pregnancy test to check. I realise that sounds ridiculous now, but I was in my 30's, had moved away from close friends and it was before I was aware of MN.
The bleeding finally stopped, then a week later a period started and out came a 2x2cm POC.

I did a lot of reading which said that the body will try to expel POC, but it can take a cycle or 2 to do so. That 1st period was incredibly heavy- like nothing I've had before. The next 2 were still heavy, but not as bad. My cycles have always been very regular, but I'd say it was 7mths since the TFMR before the bleeding returned to my normal.

OP, there is nothing that you have done wrong, nor any reason to think your uterus is damaged. If you are having such negative thoughts, I'd suggest speaking to the medical team, any counselling services they provided details of or https://www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/ which also have a helpline xxx

@Curiousrobin thanks so much for your reply - that’s so reassuring that it all cleared for you and didn’t cause any issues. Can I ask did you have any discomfort while you waited for the retained products to come away? I’ve had a lot of pelvic aches and pains and just wondered if this is normal! Also was your retained products vascular do you know? Thanks again x

I don't recall having any discomfort really, but then I nearly never do, in any pregnancy or during periods, so I think my body doesn't cramp like others - I'm not sure! My MMC was started with pills and was so mild that I didn't feel like it had worked. They obviously had, apart from the small amount of RPOC.
I think with my first MC it was vascular, but I can't 100% confirm.

I know you didn't ask me, but after my 3mths of bleeding, I had a single episode of a sharp, very intensive pelvic pain. It only last maybe 30seconds, but I was doubled over, crouched on the ground. It was about 3 days later that the retained product came out. I can't say for sure it was related, but suspect so.

Do you have fibroids OP? They grow and contract depending on pregnancy hormones, so 1 of my first signs of pregnancy was an achey/pulling on 1 side where 1 of the fibroids is. Equally, with each of my losses, I also had a similar pulling/ache as the fibroids shrink again.
