Probable Miscarriage - Is this normal?

I'm almost 7 weeks pregnant, I started to bleed heavily and suddenly yesterday evening; this slowed down gradually and has now almost stopped completely. I have had no pain at all.
I also passed one largish clot (sorry), and I still feel slightly queasy today.
I suppose I'm a little in denial still but I had a miscarriage at a similar gestation which was quite different (painful, bleeding for days etc etc).
If anybody can offer any advice that would be most appreciated.

Hi, Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. I know that lots of people on Mumsnet have had bleeding and the pregnancy has been fine but I think most advice is that any bleeding should be investigated. Do you have an Early Pregnancy Unit that you could contact? They will often arrange a scan and that would let you know how things are going and possibly reassure you? I know you say you are in denial and this would mean confronting it but if everythings fine it might save you a lot of worry.

I agree. Best to find out one way of the other as soon as you can if you can bear to. I hope everything is ok, fingers crossed for you, let us know how you get on.

Hi Cecy, sorry to hear you are going through this

I had a MC in January, so have the history. I got pregnant again, started bleeding quite heavily (with clots) thought all was lost, but had an early scan (through A&E) and everything was fine Am now 9+ weeks and crossing fingers everything is, and will stay, fine!

I think once you have had one (or more) MC's the worry never goes.

I hope you manage to get a scan ASAP, it is the only way to know for sure.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about this. It could all be fine, bleeding in pregnancy can be quite common. However, do get checked out cos I was 13 weeks preg and only bled very slightly, had no pain at all and it was a miscarriage. Had to have a D&C.

llareggub · 10/06/2008 15:07

This happened to me when I was 7 weeks pregnant with DS. We rushed off for a scan, fearing the worst, to be greeted by a lovely heartbeat. That heartbeat is now 20 months old and tearing around the garden.

Sadly I have had 2 other mc which were nothing like the bleeding you describe. I guess every experience is different.

Can you get yourself to an EPU?

Cecy · 16/06/2008 21:49

Just wanted to update as you were all so helpful.
I did go to the doctor who said it probably was a miscarriage but booked me in for a scan "to confirm our suspicions"....and at the scan they found a baby and a heartbeat.
It appears that I was most likely carrying twins and lost one of them, I also have some extrachorion complication which means I may bleed from time-to-time but they say my baby won't be affected.
Very mixed feelings but most of all I am relieved and grateful.

hi there...just thought i wud join in as in similar position...am 6 wks (altho im sure its 10 eventho they say 6 bcos i had one short period) and had little spotting for a day...then red blood so i called my gp...then it turned heavy like a period so i went to a&e (as ihavent seen a midwife yet r got any notes)by the time i got there the bleeding was out of control with huge clots...and worst i lost something huge and black-like(which i am imagining was the tissue ie foetus etc) they checked my haemoglobin levels and sent me home...now i have to wait for the early pregnancy unit to contact me for a scan to confirm it was a miscarriage.Im pretty sure it was but I cnt believe after being in a&e for 5 hrs yesterday they stil havnt sent me for a scan or even contacted me ive left loads of messages and was referred by a doc in a&e. I cant even grieve bcos im stil clinging to a hope as they havent confirmed it.And wondering will i need d&c or is it all gone?was it a molar pregnancy etc etc...almost praying it was what they call "disappearing twin" but dnt want to get my hopes up. eventho its so early its pretty devestating and the inhumane way I was treated in the a & e corridor just makes it even mre traumatic.my sympathies to all those who have had a loss x

Hi Hanifah,
just wanted to say how sorry i am to hear how you have been treated, it is so wrong and we should really all complain when this happens (saying she who never does!!!!) I know how it feels playing the waiting game, i phoned my local EPU at 10am this morning and left messages through the day, still no-one has got back to me and they close the unit at 3pm!!! It's a bloody joke but i am not laughing! You are in my thoughts. Takecare

thanks Sue,its good to know there are other people who care. I hope everything is alright with u!?! Is this ur first pregnancy? I have had one other pregnancy - a baby boy who is now 15 mths I was so scared on him that something would go wrong all the way through the pregnancy (as Id had polycystic ovaries before) but it didnt...then as this was my 2nd pregnancy I didnt even think twice...I announced it to the world when I found out (the day after my period was due)...I realy didnt see the miscarriage coming...i still cant blv it. Ive phoned them all day but just answering machine and hubby has been on complaining to a&e but they hung up on him. We should have made complaints a long time ago(like the treatment we had when iwas in labor with my ds and the aftercare) but it seems like theres no point Hope all goes well for u x

Hi Hanifah,
unfortunately i have had many mc's and a mmc at 9 weeks, i really thought this one was going to work but sadly i have now started bleeding this morning! Have recently had Nkcells testing done and get results in July so will take a break for a couple of months now, although it's getting to the point where i dont know how many more times i can cope with this! Yesterday i ended up leaving 4 messages in the EPU then i finally get a reply 30mins before they close to be told that you now need a referral from gp to come to the unit, i said when did the policy change as i came up 5 weeks ago to check hcg levels and she said oh come on then we can do that!!! These midwifes make the rules up as they go along! Sorry for waffling! Perhaps if we all did complain Hanifah things might change!

Cecy, how are doing now?, when is your next scan?

Hi Hanifah, no not a false alarm sadly, bleeding heavy most of day, just want it over with now! Did they get back in touch with you today? I got in touch with PALS at the hospital which every hospital now has and they have advised me to put everything in writing stating how i called from 10am all day to no avail. I am so in a complaining mood now! Takecare.
