TW:possible miscarriage?

i found out I was pregnant 6 days ago at just over 3 weeks. I should be 4 weeks today. I’ve had a bit of brown stringy old blood (not flowing, only in CM). Then had an instance of darker blood when I wiped during the week (not pictured). Nothing on a pad. This disappeared later the same day. Now I’ve had it again and have a little cramping on right side. Too early for the early pregnancy unit here, GP is going to give me a call. Is there any hope?

I had this at around 5 weeks. It lasted about 4 days. Nothing on a pad, only when I wiped. After 4 days I was sure I was MC so I rang 111 because like you I wasn't under a midwife yet and didn't know what else to do as I was also cramping alot on one side with sharp pains, it felt like all my pregnancy symptoms had disappeared too. They had an out of hours GP talk to me over the phone (it was a BH weekend) who sent me to A&E thinking I was having an ectopic. I was given a scan and they saw a tiny healthy heartbeat. I am here feeding that baby now, she's almost 8 months and healthy. I have my fingers crossed for you OP, I remember the fear and upset so well. I hope you have a positive outcome, I just wanted to share that there is hope. Can you phone 111 for advice?

I’m so pleased you had a positive outcome. Thank you for sharing. 111 just told me to call my GP. The GP has now referred me to Early Pregnancy Unit. Unfortunately couldn’t get an appt with them before the end of the day, have to try again tomorrow.

Did you ever find out what it was?

Praying everything will be ok 😥🙏

Dark blood is old blood.. Less worrying than fresh..
Keep optimistic op.

Thank you. I’ve had no bright red blood at all, and I hope I can hold on to that.

I also agree with the poster above, brown blood is better than red. And you arent filling a pad which is a good sign.
After I had my scan and everything turned out ok I asked what could have caused the bleeding and they basically explained that it was likely a form of implantation bleeding and told me to imagine that the embryo was essentially "burrowing" itself in and really trying to get implanted, and that sometimes causes little cells of bloods to shed away as it gets disturbed. She explained it much better than me but l hope I make sense.

Also, I was so sure I was losing my pregnancy and because of the BH weekend at the time I had to wait a couple days for my scan and the wait was awful - the not knowing. I was given some good advice, someone told me "if you are losing the baby unfortunately there is nothing you or anyone can do to stop it, but try your best to enjoy the time you have with your baby now and make it a happy and peaceful next couple of days for them. If you are losing the baby then try to make the most of this time that you still have together and just love on them". I personally found some comfort in that, I spoke to my baby and rubbed my tummy and just tried my best to enjoy them in that time while I waited to find out. Thankfully it all turned out OK for me and I hope it does for you too.

That does make sense-hopefully that’s what’s happening now. The GP mentioned it could be implantation bleeding, but I thought that would have come and gone by now. But we will see.

You gave me tears in my eyes with that advice-it’s beautiful. Thank you

I thought implantation bleeding would have happened way earlier too, I had been trying for 18 months and was constantly symptom spotting and looking out for implantation bleeding, expecting it to come before period was due. I really thought it would come much earlier and I suppose sometimes it does. But she basically explained that there is a lot of "burrowing" happening those first few weeks and a little bit of shedding blood isnt uncommon.

If you feel comfortable please let me know how your scan goes when you get it. ❤️ I have my fingers crossed that you'll get good news OP 🤞

Thank you. They won’t see me before 6 weeks, so have an appointment for the 17th. 🤞

I’ve continued bleeding. Little bit of red but mostly brown or black. Very minimal cramping and an increase in little clots. However did a test this morning and this is still looking as strong as it always was, possibly stronger. I’ve resigned myself to the fact I’m probably miscarrying, but maybe there is still a bit of hope.

I'm sorry to hear that you are still bleeding, have you rang the EPU again? I know they said they won't see you before 6 weeks but it might be worth a call for advice x

Thank you. Yes, they said they wouldn’t be able to see anything until then, and just to go to A&E if the bleeding is profuse. But it’s very slow and still pretty brown. I’ve not even filled a light panty liner, even at its worst.

My bleeding started at about 5 weeks and I bled for 4ish days so I probably was around 6 weeks by the time I had a scan too to be fair.
I still think there is hope. How are you feeling? I know the feeling and how worrying it is to wait for a scan.

cadburyegg · 07/09/2025 00:47

I had this in my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. My 2nd pregnancy sadly ended in miscarriage and my 3rd pregnancy resulted in my lovely 7 year old. Really difficult to say at this stage I’m afraid. When I had the miscarriage the bleeding didn’t stop, got redder and I eventually was in extreme pain, this was over a few days. With my now 7 year old the bleeding was on and off for a few weeks but was only a small amount each time. The EPU said it was a subchorionic hematoma which resolved fully by 12 weeks.

Sending you hugs, it really is impossible to say at this stage which way it will go and you can’t do anything to swing the outcome. I know the waiting is absolutely horrid. thinking of you 🌹

HicklingL · 17/09/2025 17:17

I went to the EPU today, and they repeated a urine test, which is now sadly negative I expected it, having had more severe bleeding around 5 weeks, with clots and some possible tissue. As a result they didn’t scan me as hcg is now so low. Will continue my recovery and we will try again. Thank you all for your kind words.

Thank you. That’s so kind of you. I’ve not wanted to tell many people, so having this forum has been so useful to help me get things off my mind. Hoping for a better time next time around
