Prednisolone - anyone taken this before?

As the title says. Has anyone taken the steroid Prednisolone after multiple losses? Been prescribed it by my consultant but now a bit scared about reading the care leaflet and all possible side effects. Would be good to hear from anyone who has actually taken it in real life x

@Daffodil1983 aw welcome Charlie, that’s lovely news. Hope you’re both doing really well xxx
I’m glad to get the update as I’m about to go again with IVF and I’ve persuaded the NHS clinic to give me prednisolone - but it’s only 10mg. Shehata suggested 20-25. Can I ask what dose you took and from when? Thank you! X

thank you. Im pretty sure I had 5mg tablets and had to take 5 each day from BFP so that would be 25mg. I did that for 4 weeks and then they slowly lowered the dose. I was also on blood thinning injections but consultant at Tommys isn’t convinced they do much.

I really hope you have some good news soon xxx

Thank you.
Yes that’s what my friend took too (she had a successful pregnancy after 6 losses and was sure it was the prednisolone). I’m going to ask to up the dose. I’ll be doing the blood thinning injections too. Fingers crossed xx

Just updating for anyone in future (it always annoyed me when I didn’t see a conclusion to some posts!) our little boy Charlie was born, healthy 2 weeks ago 🙂

Am convinced after all the losses that the prednisolone was the difference this pregnancy x

it is LOVELY to hear your final update @Daffodil1983 - thank you for letting us know. Especially as I stumbled across this thread today. Congratulations on your little boy. You must be absolutely thrilled. Hope it's all going well for you.

If you happen to see this, can I ask who was it that prescribed Prednisolone for you? I'm wondering if this might help me given my history of 5 recent miscarriage losses and after testing positive for thyroid anitbodies and my paranoia that there's some underlying autoimmune issue that is impacting my fertility. Was this an NHS prescription or done privately?

Hi Taysonic, thank you so much for your kind words.

We had it prescribed on the NHS. We were very lucky and had a bereavement midwife from our first loss (TFMR) and she managed to get the fertility consultant to prescribe it for us. We also had an appt with Tommys in Coventry. By the time of the appt we had already got pregnant so they didn’t give us any but I’ve heard some people get it from Tommys.

I’ll obviously never know but I really do think it may have helped.

wishing you so much luck. It’s such a hard journey xx
