ERPC that didn't get it all out - anyone else?

I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks so went in for an ERPC the following day. The op was fine and phyically i recovered very quickly. bleeding was absolutely minimal. 8 days after my ERPC I bled very heavily - thought I'd wet myself. After a day at the hospital a scan showed that some of the pregnancy sac was left behind so the doctor gave me a pessary to get rid of what was left - basically to open the cervix and have mild contractions. They offered me the chance to stay in hospital in case the bleeding got too heavy but I preferred to go home. That was last Thursday and it's now sunday and nothing has happened except for a very small amount of old brown blood. does this sound right? Has anyone else had an ERPC where it doesn't quite get it all out? It's absolutely hideous having to drag out this whole thing.

im sorry you are goin through such a hard time,i have had 8 d&c and never had that problem,so cant really give you any advice, but did get the brown discharge after on some occassions.maybe you should contact the epc clinic and ask for a blood test to see if it is complete.i have had this before when i had a natural m/c.
good luck and look after yourself.

Hi Woosey, sorry for your loss and difficult time, i would get checked out if i was you to ensure all has now gone. When i passed my pregnancy sac at 8weeks i felt and saw the actually sac which i then had to take to the hospital so they could run tests on it. Hope this is'nt too much info, im just trying to help. A scan would beable to tell you if you have passed the sac or not. Takecare.

Hi Woosey,

I am very sorry for your loss and I know from experience how hard it is when everything gets dragged out. I think about 5% of ERPCs are incomplete (at least that's what the sheet said I signed). I had to have another ERPC, since in my case it wasn't diagnosed for two months and at that time the remaining tissue had calcified. In general they try to avoid perforating the uterus, hence the percentage is so high.

I think there is a possibility that you might also need another ERPC, if the sac will not come out with the present treatment. I believe you will notice when the sac comes out.

I would encourage you not to wait too long but go in and insist on another scan and if necessary another ERPC. In any case ask how long they will wait until taking further steps and what they are. I know how hard it is to be proactive while grieving but I encourage you to keep them nagging constantly. Insist on treatment until you have a clear scan.

Lots of strength

Hi! I've just been reading this thread as I had a mmc discovered at 12 week scan on 11th April and then ERPC on 16th April.
For the last 2 weeks have been getting BFP which in theory could have happened. Saw GP last week who said to test again in a week (that'll be tomorrow morning then!) and if still BFP go back and see her.
Am really worried that it could be a false alarm due to hormones still in my system or not everything removed by ERPC. GP says if not everything removed I would have had some bleeding in last few weeks. Does anyone know if that's true??
Any ideas?? Really worried I'm going to get my hopes up just for them to be dashed. DH starting to get excited too....

Be careful & see the GP

I had a ERPC on 21st December (at about 9 weeks - no heartbeat) and collapsed with an ectopic pregnancy on 2nd February (about 13 weeks - terrible mess)

Sorry I had the ERPC at 6/7 weeks (it was 8 yrs ago)

Any further ideas?? Went and had scan today. Sonographer said inconclusive but she could see an area that could be either retained products still or v early pregnancy. She thinks more likely retained products. I have had no bleeding still so the EPU seem to think this unusual.

Anonymxxx - when you say you were undiagnosed for 2 months was that undiagnosed with retained products after ERPC or undiagnosed initially with mmc? Did you have any bleeding?

If anyone else has any thoughts/ideas I'd appreciate it!
