Medical management - Is it over?

I’m feeling very confused about what is going on.

Does this sound like I have passed everything and it’s a complete miscarriage?

I had medical management for MMC on Friday.

Inserted the pills at 11.30am

Pain and bleeding started within an hour, it hurt but was manageable.

3.30pm I passed a huge clot, slightly larger than a tennis ball. It was one complete dark red clot. I did poke around it as I was hoping to bury the sac/tissue. Couldn’t see anything white/grey or anything other than blood clot.

After this the pain started to get really bad, coming in waves like contractions. It was so bad I didn’t know what to do with myself, even with 60mg codeine. These awful pains carried on until 10.30pm but I didn’t pass anything else or even really bleed very much.

Not much bleeding overnight, less than my usual period. The pain started again Saturday afternoon but not as bad this time. Still worse than my worse period pains (which are usually pretty awful) and I didn’t bleed much or pass anything.

Today, Sunday, the pain is worse than Saturday and I have started to bleed much more, but no clots or anything.

I’m wondering if this sounds like I have passed everything or there is more to come? Do I maybe need to ask for another dose of medication, if I haven’t passed it.

I was pretty confident there wasn’t any tissue in the huge blood clot but now I’m thinking maybe I was wrong and I passed it all in one go. Although, I don’t know why the pain continued to get so much worse if that is the case and why the bleeding is now so much heavier.

Does anyone have and ideas/experience?

Thank you x

Hi @WorriedBadger ,

So sorry you are going through this - I am too currently. Mine has come on naturally but has been a MMC and I found out in a private scan.

I had smaller clots to start, and then the more extreme pain came for a period of 5 hours, where I passed bigger clots and maybe what felt like tissue possibly as it felt bigger. I can’t be sure because I couldn’t look. My pain was moderate for the rest of the day and I used a hot water bottle to help.
My pain has subsided today however I have not long been to the toilet and passed something else, which I’m thinking may be the placenta. I thought I was all done yesterday, but obviously not.

I have read lots of articles and posts and everyone seems to have such different experiences. Just sharing mine.

I never had pain like you described, mine was just like a period and then I passed something that looked like an organ. It was noticeably different than a clot! I did however bleed for 5 days before that came out so mine was much slower. How many weeks were you? I was about 10.5 but the baby stopped growing at 7
I went back to the epu and they confirmed everything had gone xx

Thank you so much for sharing. I’m so sorry you are both going through this as well. It’s so sad.

I was 8 weeks but was measuring smaller than that.

I was starting to think it must have been in the huge blood clot, even though I was sure at the time it wasn’t. But I have just passed the tiny sac and the pain is pretty much gone now.

I wish you both well with your recovery xx

I inserted pills at 8.15 and started painful cramps around midday. I literally felt the pain leaving my body. TMI I went the toilet and heard a big plop but couldn’t see because of the colour of the water. 2 days later I wiped and there was another big clot. Days following I wiped and I had lots of stringy bits. I’ll be 2 weeks post on Wednesday and I am still getting slightly discoloured mucus when wiping. I’ve been put on 2 sets of antibiotics for an infection.

Ah that’s great news, I hope you’re feeling okay and the pain has gone now. Mine was nearly 3 years ago now, I got pregnant 3 months after with a healthy little girl! I’ve just had an ectopic pregnancy though so back on these boards again 🙄
