Possible Miscarriage - 5 weeks 5 days

I'm 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant today. This morning around 10am I experienced a pain in my lower abdomen and then felt blood. When I wiped there was as much blood as when I'm on my period. An hour or so later I had the same bleeding. Since then (now 5pm) I haven't had any further bleeding or passed any clots. Has anyone had anything similar please? Interested to know of both positive and negative stories. This is our rainbow baby thanks to Letrozole. Thank you ❤️ x

@cpcg96 I didn't want to read and run. I'm so sorry this has happened to you, so scary. How are you doing now? Did the bleeding stop? I hope you're ok

I experienced similar although it was non stop bleeding for about 8 hours (it was a miscarriage). I’d say to phone your local emergency gynaecology/early pregnancy unit to see what they think. Since it’s only two isolated episodes, hopefully it’s ok. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Thank you for your kind message ❤️ the bleeding did stop. I didn't notice any clots so I'm trying to remain hopeful. I called my local EPAU this morning and they don't think they have scans until later in the week but waiting for a phone call back 🤞🏼 xx

I'm so sorry you went through that, sending you lots of love. Thank you, I called them this morning and I'm waiting for a call back although they don't think they have any scans until the end of the week 😢 x

Hey @cpcg96. I’m glad you called them. To be brutally honest, at this early stage, there’s nothing they can do if you are having a miscarriage so even if they scanned you today and confirmed miscarriage, it wouldn’t make much of a difference.

What they will possibly do (this is what happened to me) is they will do an hCG blood test to check your level is ok and they’ll repeat it two days later to check it is rising appropriately. If you’re ok with it, they can check your cervix to see if it’s still closed. If those two tests are ok then they will also book you for a scan in about a week for reassurance.

The main advantage to getting assessed if you’re having a miscarriage is to make sure you’re ok. Some people who are not monitored during a miscarriage can have complications like sepsis. That’s pretty extreme and unlikely to happen but that’s why they monitor you even though they won’t be able to stop a miscarriage.

I’m really sorry for the worry you’re going through. I hope things will turn out ok. They may well do!

@cpcg96 I’m so sorry you’re going through this—bleeding in early pregnancy can be incredibly stressful, especially after loss. Many people do experience significant bleeding and go on to have healthy pregnancies, but I also know the fear that comes with it.

The fact that the bleeding has stopped and you haven’t passed clots could be a reassuring sign, but it’s always best to get checked.

You’re not alone in this, and I truly hope everything turns out okay for you and your little rainbow baby 💜

I think it was the not knowing which was really difficult to deal with. I went in for a scan today and thankfully everything is okay 🙏 measuring at 6 weeks and 1 day and we managed to see the heartbeat flicking away. I took letrozole to induce ovulation so we also get a scan next week with them too which I'm incredibly grateful for.

Thank you for commenting and reaching out xx

I am SO happy that you and the baby are ok @cpcg96! That’s amazing news. I’m sorry for the worry you went through but I’m delighted it’s actually fine. Celebrate tonight xxx

I miscarried at 5 weeks 1 day and was told there would be nothing to see on a scan so just had a hcg blood test which showed my levels were too low so was classed as a chemical pregnancy. Hope you are okay as it’s not a nice experience at all

Hope1986 · 25/02/2025 22:06

@cpcg96 That’s such wonderful news! I’m so happy for you both—seeing that little heartbeat must have been such a special moment. ❤️ Wishing you a smooth and healthy pregnancy ahead. Enjoy every step of this precious journey! 💕🙏✨
