Struggling to conceive after MMC

Hi everyone,

I suffered a missed miscarriage in March last year. I had medical management which wasn’t pleasant and took me a few weeks if not a few months to recover. Since, we have struggled to get pregnant (in August I had a chemical pregnancy but bled soon after). We took a break for a few months but unfortunately since trying again at the end of last year, still no luck.

We were very fortunate the first time as we got pregnant incredibly quickly. I’m just frustrated and confused why this time round it’s taking much longer.

I took an ovulation test this month and I did have a high/peak result which is reassuring. Since the MMC, I do get spotting about a week before my period, and I don’t know whether this may be an indication that something isn’t right.

I’m hoping anyone can relate and can give me any guidance? Especially with potential fertility issues since a MMC. Will be going to the doctor in a few weeks hoping for some hormone tests if I am unsuccessful but hopefully that will not be the case 🙏🏻

Sending love to anyone in the same position as I know the pain you’re feeling ❤️

I'm very very cautious after two losses and the lines being so faint but it would appear I'm expecting again. Praying for the stickiest of beans this time 🤞🏻🌈✨️
I think I'll stop with the ovulation tests now 😂

Congratulations! My very best wishes for the pregnancy.

I know when I conceived after my loss, I was rather scared to get too excited and all the way through my pregnancy I found myself "trying" to stay detached from the baby. Obviously, we all react differently to these things, but I can aay that if anythinf sinilar happens to you, I did bond very quickly with my daughter when she arrived and had no issues with postnatal depression. Though still feel a bit bad that she didn't get a name til she was 5 days old - another consequence of my refusal to believe she would actually make it! I do sort of feel like I lost out on the nice / looking forward bit of being pregnant, but at the time, it felt so necessary to protect myself from the pain of the first loss.

So hoping you can get into happy excited mode - but don't worry if you can't- my experience was it made no difference once I had a squishy warm bundle to try to breastfeed.

@Trallia thanks so much for your lovely kind words. I have a scan in EPU on Thursday. I'll be 6+3 then. I'm nervous but not dreading it. I think once I (hopefully) get a bit further along I'll start to believe it a bit more. They're gonna start me on progesterone, all going well, which I think will help me relax too.

peepsypops · 09/09/2025 06:31

Congratulations @SureLooki hope it all goes well ❤️

Guys im looking for some advice, please. I’m at the end of cycle 4 with no positive - appreciate that’s not a long time but with my 3 pregnancies (1 resulting in a baby) I conceived within 2 cycles.

id love to know are you tracking BBT? And if so what’s the best method of doing so? Tempted to buy an Oura ring but my gosh I have spent so much on this so I’m just wondering is it worth it or are there more cost effective ways….

thank you 😊

SureLook · 09/09/2025 11:26

@peepsypops I've never BBTd but I know people who have. Some of them just buy a thermometer off Amazon. It has to have two decimal places. You use it first thing when you wake up. Before you sit up or speak or do anything else.
I know of people who have the Oura ring and they highly rate it. They say it's so easy.

Trallia · 10/09/2025 21:53

I couldn't be doing with temperature tracking, but ovulation testing wee straps were handy for navigating my weird PCOSy cycles.

Really though ... the "secret" is a lot of sex. Every 2 -3 days all month. Try to make the most of it?!

SureLook · 11/09/2025 06:09

Yeah, a lot of people also just DTD every second day to cover it rather than tracking anything.

peepsypops · 11/09/2025 16:55

True - I DTD every second day this month just gone and good old AF has arrived and I’m fuming 😂 DTD every second day with a full time shift work job and a toddler already is no mean feat!

Trallia · 11/09/2025 20:18

Impressive, indeed!

I really have no idea how anyone manages to have a second child, especially if there us any fertility challenges...

peepsypops · 11/09/2025 22:08

It’s nuts - nor do I, to be fair. When I TTC DC1 We struck lucky. This mechanical way of doing things is brutal to say the least. There’ll be those who have never had fertility issues say “relax and it’ll never happen” and I’ll say unless it’s the immaculate conception 😂

SureLook · 12/09/2025 14:06

@peepsypops aww, sorry to hear AF is here. You're right, though. It is a military operation!

Trallia · 12/09/2025 20:49

The ovulation tests just helped me know when to switch to every day, and then the rest of the month, I could do ever 2-3 without feeling I was "getting it wrong". Helped stop DTD feel like a chore!

Hi all

I'm just waiting for my period to come back after my 5th pregnancy loss (neonatal death at 22 weeks, following 4 missed miscarriages). We were just starting to believe that our little girl might be the one, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

I think I'm a few weeks off my period but wanted to join back on these boards so I feel less isolated and alone x

SureLook · 12/09/2025 21:47

Oh my god @Moosey898 I am so so so sorry to hear that. I remember you from other threads and I was so happy for you when you fell again and everything was going so well. Life is just so unfair sometimes. How are you doing? I hope you have lots of support in real life ❤️

Moosey898 · 12/09/2025 21:59

Hey @SureLook - yeah we are absolutely devastated. I went in to triage on the Monday with some bloody discharge that I'd had for a week but just the Wednesday before I had my 20 week scan and everything looked good so I wasn't too worried. Turns out I was 3-4cm dilated, they put an emergency stitch in Tuesday morning, but I had an infection that was just getting worse despite being on IV antibiotics so they had to remove the stitch and induce because I was at risk of turning septic. It was the most horrific week in hospital and I'm definitely still in some shock/disbelief at everything that happened.

Just wish we weren't having to start again. I was already high risk, now I'm hoping I can have a super detailed amount of care if we're lucky enough to conceive again. I'm not sure if it was mentioned on the threads we were on together before but I also have chromosome abnormalities so my miscarriage risk is twice that of the average person anyway, so we have to go into it expecting another loss. I'm eligible for IVF on the NHS but we're going to keep trying naturally whilst we wait for the referral as it can take 6-8 months.

SureLook · 13/09/2025 06:26

@Moosey898 oh my god, that is just devastating. What was causing the infection? I'm so sorry you went through all of that. Yes, you did mention about the chromosomal abnormalities before. Are you waiting for your period before you start trying again?

Moosey898 · 13/09/2025 07:23

@SureLook yeah waiting for my period - the damage done to your body is so much more at a late stage, for my MMCs I didn't but this time I will as it was essentially a full birth experience, placenta was difficult to come away etc. I'm hoping my cycle comes back soon, small mercies if that happens and I can at least refocus again!

They don't know yet what the infection was from and may never know - got a meeting with the consultant to review all the tests they did when I was in hospital to see if anything gives any insight, that's on 11th November.

Trallia · 13/09/2025 12:57

I'm so sorry to hear you've been through this. :( Fingers crossed your cycle comes back soon - but it may be some time. It was 6 months after birth for me (though, I was breastfeeding).

Thank you - I've been told it should be 5-8 weeks, hoping for the shorter end

SureLook · 13/09/2025 13:25

@Moosey898 God, I'm so sorry. What an experience. That's good that you're having a review. You could ask there about extra care and scans while you're there.
My period came back six weeks exactly after my DD. And within three to four weeks for my two losses. So hopefully it will arrive soon.

Lozzaxxx · 29/09/2025 22:48

I also had a MMC in January this year with identical twins. Had the medication after waiting for the miscarriage to happen naturally. Absolutely awful experience and even now I don

SureLook · 30/09/2025 06:59

@Lozzaxxx I think your comment posted before you were ready. It seems like it got cut off.

Oh don’t know why that only posted half of what I said 😭 I’ll carry it on..

So yeah it was awful and my body is still not 100% with a fair few new PMS symptoms such as nausea, back ache and sore boobs, whereas pre MMC, I would just get cramps and that is it! Now I don’t get the cramps. I did go to the GP and they said it could take a year for my body to go back to “normal” or this could be my new normal. I honestly don’t think people realise what our bodies go through with this unless you’ve actually had it happen!

Anyway I haven’t fallen pregnant since and it’s hard not to feel like something is wrong 😩

Sending so much love to anyone who have suffered a loss xxx

Lozzaxxx · 30/09/2025 07:32

@SureLook Thanks, just seen this and I have no idea why it done that after I spilled my guts out last night 😂😭

SureLook · 30/09/2025 08:20

@Lozzaxxx how long did it take you to catch for your MMC? I think it takes our bodies much longer to settle than what you read would have you believe. My periods also changed. My cycles were shorter and they were much more painful. I caught again three months later but that was a blighted ovum. I don't think my body was ready. Did you start trying again immediately?
