Possible ectopic. Bleeding but HCG rising.

Hi all. Sorry to post again, I thought it better to do a separate post.

Things are just getting more complicated. Bit of a back story, tested positive on 6th Feb but started spotting on the 9th with cramps, this progressed to period like bleeding within a few days and I had to have a scan on Friday (14th), which showed pregnancy of unknown location and they said it was likely I'd miscarried. They also took some bloods and I had to go back this morning for repeat bloods.

They've just phoned me to say that my levels have actually risen but not as they would expect with a healthy pregnancy, so it's looking like it could possibly be elsewhere.

I have to go for another scan tomorrow to check what's going on.

I'm still bleeding and still have pains, more so on my right but not overly bad. I've had on and off sharp pains in my shoulder but I figured if it was because of an ectopic the pain would be constant and not come and go?

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and what the outcome was?

Bit worried now.

I had an ectopic that I didn’t know about until it ruptured, the pain in my shoulder did come and go. However this was because I was around 7 weeks and it had ruptured! I had no signs of ectopic before this

With my ectopic, hcg slow rising, was static then raised again. I was around 6wks they saw pregnancy in my right tube and that's when I got the shoulder tip pain, dizziness, pressure in bottom, and tenderness around lower tummy (not too much on the side of the ectopic strangely) had continuous bleeding too. How far along are you and have they said will scan? x

Thank you for your reply. I'm only 5+5. Last scan absolutely nothing could be seen other than thickened lining and they said I'd likely bleed more..I haven't stopped bleeding for over a week now and it's got heavier but still not what I'd class as heavy.

Hoping the scan will confirm either way but they said it can be hard to diagnose so early.

They said the same to me really hard to see so early on.
Before they diagnosed ectopic they said could be retained tissue which was causing hcg not to drop. Fingers crossed they can see tomorrow 🙏 the wait is horrible x

Thank you. I'm hoping that that could be the case but they showed me the scan and there was literally nothing to be seen, so if there is anything left, it must be tiny.

Hopefully I'll have some answers tomorrow.

Just wanted to update..Had my scan today and they couldn't see any signs of it being ectopic but still couldn't fully rule it out. Had blood re-done and my levels have risen again slightly, so they said it's looking more like an incomplete miscarriage.

I have to go back on Friday for another scan and bloods and if still the same, they'll give me treatment to speed things up.

Just really want this to be over now :(

I'm so sorry you're going through this and not had a clear outcome yet! It is mentally draining. Really hope Friday comes quick for you 🙏

Just thought I'd update again. I thought I had passed the tissue on Wednesday evening and bleeding and pain seem to have calmed right down.

BUT I had my scan this morning and there still seems to be some lining there and blood levels had risen again but they could only read up to a certain level on their machine, so they gave me misoprostol and I have to go back on Tuesday for another set of bloods.

They've just phoned me again to say they've had my results back from the lab and my hcg has risen really high 😩 So now I have no idea what's going on. I have open access to the ward all weekend just incase my pain or bleeding gets worse and have to not use the tablets and go back Tuesday

Has anyone ever experienced something like this?

Starting to worry it actually might be ectopic but they can't find it :/

So sorry to hear this, its so upsetting and worrying when you just want to know whats happening. I would push for another scan on Tuesday too if you arent already having one especially if your levels are rising. I can't comment on hcg as mine were low and slow rising with my ectopic. Definitely make sure to go back before Tuesday if your symptoms worsen x

Thank you pinkrose. Well I got called back in for another scan and I've been admitted 🙈 They need to make sure it isn't ectopic.

They still can't see where it is, so will be monitored until they figure it out. Really not where I was hoping to end up.

Thanks for asking @pinkrose001. Didn't have a good night, in a lot of discomfort but the pain isn't any worse and just comes and goes.

Just waiting to see the Dr now to see if I need surgery or not. Think I'll have to have more bloods to see if my levels have gone down or not.

I'm just feeling really confused. It's still a PUL at the moment but my HCG levels yesterday were 10420, they'd risen from 5000odd on Tuesday and yet they can't figure out where it is.

Hopefully have some answers soon and can go home 🤞

So rubbish so sorry you're going through this. Have they mentioned methotrexate rather than surgery? I had surgery to remove my tube but that was because they found pregnancy and the tube was leaking with internal bleeding. I asked (begged lol) for methotrexate but they told me I was passed that point sadly. Wonder if they may give this a try first? x

They haven't mentioned anything at all yet. Still waiting to see the doctor. I'm assuming they're waiting for my bloods to come back first and go from there.

How did your bloods go yesterday? 🙏

@pinkrose001 They had risen again but only by 1000 or so. So they've kept me in and they've redone my bloods this morning. If the levels have risen again, then I'll have to have a laparoscopy to find it and if they don't find anything, then it'll be a d+c but either way, hopefully I should have some treatment today.

I'm not sure what happens if my levels have dropped though 🤔

Thank you. I didn't end up having the laparoscopy. They rescanned me this morning and still couldn't see anything other than some irregularities in my uterus. So they decided it would be better to do the D+E and send me home and re-check my levels in a couple of days.

I've had it done now and it was pretty awful :( still in a lot of pain. But I should be able to go home. Haven't seen my children for 4 days, so I can't wait to get back to them.

Just hope it is the end of things and I don't have to go through anything else.
