Positive hcg but ovulating after MMC

Hi there,

I had a diagnosed mmc on 9th jan I was 9 weeks but baby measured 5-6 weeks. I chose medical management and started my tablets on the 10th jan.
My EPU told me to take a pregnancy test 2 weeks after my heaviest bleeding, so I took a test on 28th of Jan which was still positive. The EPU did a scan on the 29th which I had some remaining tissues but that it should come away with my next period.

Yesterday I had my usual ovulations pains and pressure so I’m assuming I possibly ovulated last night.
I took a hcg test which although it’s faint there’s definitely still two lines there. So nearly 4 weeks after taking the tablets I’m still testing positive?

We aren’t wanting to try again yet until after my next period and follow the advice giving by the clinic just incase I still have some pregnancy tissue left over, id rather it be away before another pregnancy as this is my 2nd miscarriage over years of secondary infertility, I just couldn’t think of more upset.
I have pcos so was shocked to feel my ovulation pains as soon after miscarriage, although if I count from 10th of Jan as cycle day 1 I’m around cycle day 27/28 now which is usually when I’d ovulate in previous cycles.

Is it normal to still have hcg in your system even weeks later after miscarriage? And can you ovulate even having some hcg still in your body? Just curious to hear others experiences with ovulation after miscarriage.

thank you to you for reading all of this x

Sorry for your loss, I had medical management of MMC in summer and I got my negative 4 weeks after treatment then had my first period at the end of that week so presumably I ovulated in that time that I was testing positive? But to be honest I didn’t track anything or notice ovulation pain

@LittleLemonPie its such an awful thing to go through, I hope you have support around you to help you through. I know for me I didn’t feel like I could even start to move on until my tests were negative so the waiting is awful.

Unfortunately it’s happened to me again. Pretty much the exact same as the first time (and your situation) was measuring 5-6 but should have been 9. I opted for surgery this time and I’m still spotting when it will be 3 weeks Monday.. feel like I’m stuck in limbo.

All that to say look after yourself and you’re not alone 🤍 sending positive thoughts that this is resolved for you soon and baby dust for the future x

@Confusedmermaid1 it is so devastating. I feel the same, finding it hard to move on while still bleeding and testing positive even if they are still faint, they aren’t negative yet.

Im so sorry you are going through it again. It’s heartbreaking 💔
i fell pregnant on fertility treatment (letrozole) in aug 2023 was my first miscarriage in September 2023.
I took me a whole year and 3 months to fall pregnant again (even after a year of fertility treatments) I fell naturally this time while are on the waiting list for IVF.

I really feel my second miscarriage has completely hit me so much deeper emotionally.
I have a great husband he’s been so supportive along with family and some close friends.

Thank you, same for you. You look after yourself and hopefully we both can move on soon from this and have our positive stories. Sending you baby dust for the future ✨❤️

Hello!! So sorry to be meeting on this type of thread and for your loss.

I had a MMC where baby stopped growing around 6 weeks but picked up on a scan a short time after back on 30th Dec.

I had an MVA on 7th Jan, sadly retained products (tests still very positive) and the products were vascular and big enough for intervention therefore D&C on 31st Jan. When discussing with the nurse if the RPOC were smaller and not vascular they would expect same as you have been told, in terms of next period to clear it out. It varies women to women but your body can gear up to ovulate with small amounts of HCG still present so it is definitely possible that you’ve ovulated, especially if the tests are very faint / squinters. I know how hard it feels to try to move on as my tests are now squinters and I just keep retesting in hope of them two lines disappearing, but it is likely that yours will become negative post period if you have a small amount of RPOC.
