Period after MVA

Hi everyone,

I’m just after some advice really. I had an MVA on 23rd December at 11 weeks after a scan sadly showed the baby was only measuring around 8 weeks and no heartbeat could be detected. I had 10 days of light to moderate bleeding after this. I finally got a negative pregnancy test on Monday 20th January, 4 weeks after the MVA.

On Friday (24th January) I had what I thought was the start of my period, however since then I only seem to be spotting and it is mainly now brown or pink blood, rather than the red blood I had on Friday and Saturday (which although red, it was only really there when I wiped and not on the pad). The flow has been so light the whole time and I am so worried about the likelihood of Ashermans after having had an MVA.

I’m wondering if anyone else has any experience of this and if it would be worth speaking to the GP yet? I have a feeling I will be told to monitor my next few cycles but feeling so worried already as we are desperate to TTC again. Any advice would be much appreciated xx

Hi OP, I'm sorry for your loss, a MMC feels extra heartbreaking. I had one diagnosed last July and had a MVA to resolve it. I had a very very light bleed about a month afterwards then nothing. I got in a right panic about Ashermans. I went to my GP and she referred me for an ultrasound which found I had a thickened womb lining, likely due to hormonal imbalance. My period started shortly after, it would have been about 2.5 months since the MVA. I think my body just took a while to get back into things.

I totally get your impatience to try again, I was the same. I'd go to your GP and request blood tests and an ultrasound. Ashermans is very rare with an MVA especially if you've only had one. It can only be diagnosed for sure with a hysteroscopy though, but my GP wouldn't refer me for that first off.
Wishing you luck x

Thank you so much for your reply. I will call the GP tomorrow and see if I can be seen. Pleased to hear you were seen and it was just your body and hormones etc. settling down again, that is encouraging to hear.
