How many weeks after your miscarriage did you get a period?

I miscarried on the 15th December at 6 weeks pregnant, was awful as we’d been trying for baby no2 for 8 months.
anyway how long before your period came back?
my cycles are normally only 23 days and I’m currently on day 28, is it normal to take a bit longer to get them back?
thanks

Hi, I’m really sorry for your loss.
My cycle is usually around 4 weeks but I’ve found that my first period after a MC has always taken a little longer, usually 5 or 6 weeks. After that, my cycle has usually returned to normal, maybe a couple of days longer.

Hatchyhatch · 12/01/2025 08:51

For my first MC (natural pregnancy) it took 3 weeks.

For my second MC (IVF pregnancy) it’s taken 6 weeks.

Be gentle with yourself and know it will come back.

Sorry for your loss. It’s incredibly difficult.

I’ve had 3 miscarriages and for all of them my period came back 5-6 weeks after the miscarriage started. Though for one of those I don’t think I ovulated in that cycle.

I think the HcG has to get down a bit before the usual hormonal cycle kicks in.

Motherofthreewildboys · 23/01/2025 14:14

I had a miscarriage 6th December. I'm still waiting for my period and it will be 7 weeks tomorrow since. I have light pink spotting this week but it's only when I wipe its hardly anything. I keep thinking my period will come but it hasn't.

Coffeeandbannans · 23/01/2025 14:19

I'm in the same boat. I can't understand why It's not come yet, especially after all the other miscarriages it came back way sooner than this.

Itonlytakesone · 23/01/2025 14:29

I'm wanting to ask this question too. I had the bleed from a chemical 15th jan onwards but it wasn't as heavy as I was expecting. I was wondering when a period would arrive. Iv had low abdominal cramping last couple days not sure if it's digestion / pmt hormone related I think it all just needs to settle. Iv been googling this all dayHmm

Superscientist · 27/01/2025 15:17

Another in this boat.
I'm day 47 so coming up 7 weeks since my second miscarriage. I had my first in August and got my period after 4 weeks and kinda hoped the same would happen!
No pms/spotting or pregnancy symptoms either as we haven't waited.

Itonlytakesone · 27/01/2025 16:10

@Superscientist
How many weeks were you when you miscarried? I was about 5 so I'm expecting a period 4 weeks after but who knows

I was 10 weeks both times when I physically lost the pregnancies. The second I know didn't develop past 6 weeks gestation, both losses were similar so I suspect the first was a similar gestation. There was a heartbeat at 7+4 but measuring nearly 2 weeks behind, rescan 2 weeks later showed a little growth and no heartbeat so the pregnancy was lost about 8 weeks again consistent with first loss when my all day nausea stopped.

Sorry for your loss. Currently going through an early miscarriage myself. Wasn’t far along at all, 4 weeks. Still heartbroken though.

I had the same happen in Oct 2022 & my periods took about 5-6 cycles to get back into full swing properly. my first period I think was about a week later than it would have been had I’d not MCd. We wasn’t TTC at the time so I wasn’t sure about when and if ovulation occurred after that.

Samthenanny · 11/02/2025 14:38

Sorry everyone I forgot I posted. Sorry for all your loses.
So my period came back 5 weeks after I miscarried, I’m currently on day 28 of my second cycle since the miscarriage and since Friday I’ve assumed AF is arriving as I’ve had very intense period cramps mainly of a evening and early morning with some during the day, according to flo im a day late but I don't want to test as I’m very sure AF will arrive soon.

@Samthenanny
Hoping you're pregnant but I'm with you it equally could be af 🙈. I'm 4 weeks post chemical now and no af I feel it cramping though as if it's ready to start but if you're anything to go by it could be a week after who knows. My tests are negative I needed to test it drives you mad doesn't it 🫠

Samthenanny · 11/02/2025 18:55

@Itonlytakesone thanks, if I am I’ll be very shocked as we only done the deed once, as I was having a month to concentrate on myself before trying again.
is that your first chemical?
it honestly drives you crazy doesn’t it,
I got back from work done a ovulation test which was near positive so done a cheapie HCG test and there’s the faintest line but it done come up straight away, so I don’t really know 🤷🏻‍♀️

Iv ordered some cheap tests arriving tomorrow but I don't think I'll be positive my others say 8/9dpo weren't. No sign of af and I only dtd once too. It's so hard all of this and yes it was my first chemical but I did have a blighted ovum last year that was hell!

Hey 🙂 what was the outcome for you? My period is due Saturday. Early response tests negative so guessing I’m out this month! Also having slight cramps which I assume is pre AF! Xx

Samthenanny · 04/03/2025 12:56

@Stardust127 I wasn’t pregnant, had the longest cycle ever of 36 days when I’m usually 23-26 days, peed on so many sticks as well.
currently on another 2WW so we’ll see what the outcome is this time around.
did you get your period? Or a BFP?

Mine ended up coming after they prescribed Provera, three months after the last miscarriage.

I'm currently sitting in the clinic for our follow up appointment, I hate this place. It used to be so full of hope and expectation, now it just brings fear and disappointment, maybe it's our sign to give up and accept that we just aren't mean to have children.

PetiteLady · 09/05/2025 19:33

I miscarried at 7weeks on the 17th March & my period has only just arrived on 9th May. Almost 8 weeks later. Heavy bleed & v painful!
