Elevated NK cells

sd8809 · 20/12/2024 14:45

Hi just got back some bloods results to say my NK cells count is elevated. I have had two healthy uncomplicated pregnancies and then 4 consecutive early miscarriage this year.

NK cells came back high in blood and awaiting uterine biopsy for uterine nk cell count.

wondering if anyone has had success with natural conception with elevated nk cell count? We can get pregnant quite easily but seem to be losing them early on

I had 3 miscarriages in less than a year, got a uterine biopsy which came back high for NK cells. I got prescribed prednisolone and progesterone for my next pregnancy and she is now about to turn 7.

That’s amazing. Can ask dose of steroids and when they advised to start talking them?

I have had an MMC and two chemicals and also been diagnosed with high NK cells. I was supposed to be having prednisone and intralipids but I'm allergic to the intralipids so will just be on prednisone from first signs of a positive test. Will also be in progesterone.

I’m afraid I don’t have any advice, but I’ve read lots of people comment on various threads over the years having successful pregnancies with high NK cells.

Can I ask, where have you had your NK cells blood test and biopsy completed? I’m under a specialist but they don’t test for this so trying to work out who/where to approach to get this checked myself!

sd8809 · 20/12/2024 21:07

Hi sorry for your losses who is prescribing your prednisone? Reproductive immunologist?

So sorry for your losses. Did you see a RI to prescribe your steroids?

I got the bloods samples via fertilysis and biopsy via clinic in Dublin

Yes, I did some research to find the nearest with a good reputation. I wanted a consultant with a good general outlook on testing but who specialised in RI.

@sd8809 how are you getting on?? I was also diagnosed with High activated NK cells when testing in a pregnancy state. I had 1 MMC and 2 chemicals before being diagnosed with this. I then was put onto prednisolone and progesterone along with infusions. I am now 15 weeks pregnant xxxx

@sd8809 ahh thats amazing Congrats too !! thats just how i felt with weaning off . I am now totally off the steroids I took my last one on Saturday. Feeling a bit groggy and tired and low mood from coming off them but other than that all good. Its unsafe to take prednisolone in 2nd trimester though isnt it and they say the steroids have done their job by 12 weeks! i suppose i just have to trust the clinic xx

Yeah long term use of steroids has risks and by 12 weeks the placenta should be fully operational and I think this stops our ability to attack the fetus as the two circulations have a barrier between them.

@Meg310532 I'm not too bad, thank you. Still waiting for a positive to test my medication protocol but ever hopeful. I was thinking of coming off the low dose aspirin for a while but, to be honest, my specialist seemed pretty keen for me to stay on it so I suppose I will.

Meg310532 · 10/04/2025 16:46

@Objectiontime I was on baby asprin the whole way through the process with CRP clinic and still on it now. Been told to take it till im 20 weeks ! how many months have you been trying? would you try superovulation?? xxx

Hi there, funnily enough, my specialist has mentioned a course if letrozole and a trigger shot (think that's what superivulation is?). I'm not overly keen as I appear to ovulate naturally anyway and I'm in a job where it is quite hard to get time off if I keep having to go for scans to check follicle size. That said, I may have to consider it in a month or two if I'm still not successful using OPKs. This is my sixth cycle of trying since my last chemical.

I

Meg310532 · 10/04/2025 22:25

@Objectiontime yeh superovulation is what I did and I had three follicles which I suppose just tripled the chances! It worked for me on my first cycle as the cycle before got cancelled: but yeh it’s more time for scans and stuff ! Xx

Yes, I may well try it in a month or too and see how I go.

Hi Megan, you may not see this but I saw one of your other comments further down that mentioned CRP clinic, is this the one in Epsom? I’ve had 5 consecutive losses now (no children) last one being 2 weeks ago and I’m losing hope and not sure where to turn next. I have seen a few things about Epsom so when I saw your comment I just wanted to know if this is where you went for the NK cells test. Thanks in advance x

@GeorgiaSwan have sent my number in PM so you can text me hun x

ClaireP22 · 22/06/2025 22:02

@Meg310532 i am just about to starting using treatment at CRP clinic due to high NK cells but I’m sceptical about the treatment and cost they are charging. They have prescribed Adalamumab injections, intralipid IV’s, Prednisolone, HCQ, Fragmin etc. was this the same for you? Interested to know how things panned out for you. Many thanks. X

Meg310532 · 24/06/2025 11:16

hi @ClaireP22 I too was sceptical over the treatment plan... i just kept thinking ... IS THIS REALLY THE REASON???? but it was for me!! i had three miscarriages and my first pregnancy with CRP was a success I now have 12 weeks 6 days to go and i honestly dont think i would be here without the clinic. I was on prednisolone, progesterone and intrapalids. xxx

ClaireP22 · 24/06/2025 16:41

@Meg310532 Thank you so much. That has given me reassurance from your message. It’s so hard to know what the right thing to do is. He’s put me on that medication too along with Adalimumab injections, HCQ. You just don’t know what lasting effects all this medication has on your body! X
