I was hoping someone would be able to shed light on their experiences of a blighted ovum miscarriage.
I had my 12 week scan last week where it was revealed that I had an empty gestational sac, no embryo. I'm 39 and we've been trying for 9 months for our first. I'd had no symptoms of miscarriage up to that point so obviously was a shock. Another scan was scheduled 10 days later so next Monday which is the earliest they can legally do before confirming miscarriage in case it was an early pregnancy which I know it's not from my dates. No one has said it might be blighted ovum or the other name for it this is just from my own research. Obviously we've been emotionally processing all that but now I'm having miscarriage symptoms which no one prepared me for and I've tried to ask questions and was told 'how long is a piece of string?'
I've had mild cramps similar to a period, and have passed some dark almost black clots but not a lot. Also noticed what I think was amniotic fluid leaking. No heavy red bleeding yet, can I expect this? I've read all the horror stories about people bleeding through a pad an hour and having to go to A&E and am a little concerned about that. Does anyone have any experience of a blighted ovum miscarriage where this was it? Or did it get gradually worse? Over what time period? Trying to go about my daily life is difficult not knowing when this might all happen or if it will at all naturally before my scan next week.
