Experiences with cytogenetic testing on NHS after miscarriage

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone had experiences with cytogenetic testing on the NHS. I have just been through my fourth loss and had the surgical management. As I’ve had so many recurrent losses they have sent the embryo for cytogenetic testing. They were only measuring 6w1d so super tiny.
They said the results would take months and I know ultimately I just need to wait. I’m just so scared of the result, but an also aware they may not even get a result and I’ll be worried for months with no answer at the end. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with it

Thank you x

Hi I also just went through my 4th loss also but I took medical management. I just got back my cytogenetic today and it said there was trisomy 13 which would have caused the miscarriage. I have two children already with my husbands but this is our 4th consecutive loss. They said just bad luck with the trisomy 13 but future pregnancies I would be offered prenatal screening. It has given me the reason for this miscarriage which I have found helpful, because the prior three I got no answers. Also I got my results within 6 weeks

Hi @sd8809

I’m so sorry to hear about your losses and thank you so much for sharing your experience. I’m so glad you got an answer which you found helpful and they are adding additional screening. I hope I get my results back on that timescale too, it’s only been a week for me now and I can’t get it out of my mind.
Thank you for also sharing you have 2 children. Me and my husband have no living children and I have worrying maybe this isn’t on the cards for us, but you have given me hope thank you❤️

I’m so sorry again your going through this, thank you for sharing again x

Hi,
I had testing on my 3rd MC, the results took 8 months and it was trisonomy 22. They did karotype testing on both of us to see if we were carriers (that is just a blood test) and that took a month or so. We were not carriers so it was just bad luck.
Good luck

Hi @JaneSmith8
Thank you so much for sharing and I’m so sorry to hear about your losses. Waiting 8 months is horrendous!! I hate how much of a postcode lottery treatment is im sorry to had to wait so long. I hope the answer and the karotyping tests gave you some peace. I feel like is so difficult as there is no good answer really😔

thank you for your well wishes x
