Non viable pregnancy

Hi there,

I’m just looking for a bit of advice from someone who has been through a similar thing. Last week I attended a private scan thinking I was at least 8 weeks pregnant. The sonographer couldn’t find a heartbeat and said growth looked more like 6 weeks. The day later I attended an NHS scan - they found a (very, very faint) heartbeat but said it was measuring just under 6 weeks and it was likely a non viable pregnancy considering how off my dates etc were. Both said I was likely to miscarry but I have an appointment for next week just in case. My question is - anyone been in the same boat? And if so, did you end up miscarrying naturally or having to take the medications? How long did it take? I am terrified of the pain and feel this waiting is just making everything worse :( thank you!

Hello,
I'm so sorry to hear you're in this rubbish position. I've been there recently so completely empathise. I too should have been around 8 weeks, but measured 6ish with a faint heartbeat on two scans (one private and one EPU), and then a further EPU scan a week later showed the heart had stopped. Husband and I were/are beyond devastated. I spent many, many hours scouring the internet and forums for hope before we were told the heart had stopped, and in some cases everything was ok for some. But for us it ended in a medically managed miscarriage. I didn't want to wait for it to happen naturally, and I wanted to try and avoid risk of scarring on the surgical route. Took the pills at home, and the worst was over within a few days (I hope - I'm 5 days past taking the second lot of meds now but still bleeding as is expected)...
Here if you need to talk or vent. It's a horrible position to be in.
Crossing my fingers for you that it will all be ok, but I promise you will get through it if not.

Hello, I was diagnosed with a MMC Wednesday. Sorry to hear, being in limbo with it all is really difficult. With mine, it was an empty sac, so different from your experience. I should've been 8 weeks, but the sac was mearuing around around 5.5 weeks. I was given misoprostol Wednesday and Thursday (as I haven't passed enough tissue). Still haven't passed enough tissue, so I'm going back in on Monday. I think they're going to discuss the next options which are stronger medication or surgery.

So sorry you're having to go through this, i had this exact same issue.
I went for a private scan, my sack was measuring 9 weeks weirdly, but unfortunately baby was measure 6+1, i went to the EPAU and was told the exact same and no heartbeat. 2 days later i miscarried naturally.
